The Way He Looks Movie Analysis
As a filmmaker interested in making films regarding homosexuality, Brazilian director Daniel Ribeiro had dealt with another remarkable film, which obviously identifies the wide spreading issue of LGBT community where teenagers are involved. With his “The Way He Looks” released on the seventh day of November, 2014, his passion in making films involving homosexual relationships between adolescents is clearly stated which is not as typical as other genres of movie tackling about other global issues in the society. Focusing on how teenagers live in discovering their self-identity as part of their development, the film depicts a blind teenager seeking for independence under his condition of being blind and, consequently, his overprotective parents. …show more content…
Giovana (Tess Amarim) attempts to tell her affection which she tries to imply through her words and actions towards his blind best friend Leonardo (Ghilherme Lobo). But curly-haired Gabriel (Fabio Audi) came across to their relationship which would cause the forming of Truffaut’s dynamics. With regards to Leo’s parents who overprotect their son due to his situation, Leo always wants to be independent like any other teenagers. As he escaped from his wont by being a part of an exchange program, his blurry relationship with Giovana starts to occur.
With the discovery of Leo’s identity with the assistance of his friends, Giovana and Gabriel, he found out many things that changed his perspective about his personality. When Giovana opened the topic about romance with Leo, the kiss that Giovana told—it haunts him even until he sleeps at night. According to Daven Hiskey in his article “How the Blind Dream” published in Today I Found Out: Feed Your Brain, only those who have become blind until the ages five to seven years old and above can have visual dream experiences. Blind people who have been blind before this age or even those who are completely blind since they were born would not have visual dream experiences. Indeed, that scene that Leo had dreamt that he can see the body (but not the face) of Giovana, Gabriel and Karina (Isabela Guasco) is proven that it is not likely to happen since Leo was born
