The Way
“The Way” By: Ariana Grande Featuring Mac Miller
American singer-songwriter and actress Ariana Grande featuring rapper Mac Miller recorded the song “The Way” and was released on March 26, 2013 by Republic Records and as the lead single from her album Daydreamin’. This song was written by Mac Miller himself, Harmony Samuels, Jordin Sparks, All Sherrod Lambert, and Sevyn Streeter. “The Way” is a pop genre song whose melody is directly from the R&B 1998 hit “Still Not a Player,” originally recorded by rapper Big Punisher, also known as, BIG PUN and Joe.
Critics were well impressed with the lead single “The Way”, with some comparing Grande’s vocals to Mariah Carey. In which, Grande is a huge fan of being compared to Mariah Carey which she loves the compliments about it. Ariana told Digital Spy, “She’s an inspiration; she’s the greatest female vocalist, so it was definitely a compliment. Mariah and Whitney Houston were my goddesses growing up. We thought “The Way” would get to the Top 15 and that, that would be a great debut and we’d celebrate. I didn’t expect any of this, and I didn’t expect it to debut at 10 on the Billboard chart either. It was craziness to me.” This makes Grande lead female artist for the first top ten arrival for making her first hot one-hundred appearance since Yael Naim, who launched with the lead song “New Soul” back in 2008. Behind the lead single “Suit & Tie” by Justin Timberlake featuring Jay-Z, “The Way” holds the second highest first week sales amount of 2013 and on May 1, 2013, the song had reached Gold status, reaching 500,000 sold pieces.
Form is what organizes the principle in music; where its basic elements are repetition, contrast, and variation. Form also work’s into structure or shape of the music. This is where the composer makes it more understandable to the listener by the way the elements of a composition have been combined or balanced. In all the arts, a steadiness is required between symmetry and asymmetry, unity

Here’s her first verse “I was riding shotgun, With my hair undone, In the front seat of his car, He's got a one-hand feel, On the steering wheel, The other on my heart, I look around, turn the radio down, He says, "Baby is something wrong?", I say, "Nothing,, I was just thinking, How we don't have a song", And he says…” I feel like any girl could relate to her moment, just picturing themselves chilling in the car with their boo, being a typical girlfriend, over thinking every little detail such as not having “a song” to describe their relationship.…

When I was younger, I looked up to my older sister a great deal. Anything that she did, I wanted to do. She was like my hero, or that cartoon character ever child wanted to go up and be like. When my sister and I were growing up, we listened to a lot of music and watched a lot of cartoons, but only because she wanted to. My sister, Christine, had a favorite rapper and singer. Now her rapper choice I thought was great but he wasn’t my favorite. Christine, or sometimes Tine, favorite rapper was Tupac Shakur. Though we did not agree on the same rapper, we did however, agree on our favorite singer together. We both chose an artist by the name of Aaliyah Dana Haughton. The first time I heard her music I fell in love.…

Our society has certain expectations on how women should behave. Women are supposed to give up their uniqueness and independence to become the stereotypical shy and gentle, romantic that care only about their outward appearance. As a result, our society pressures women to conform to its expectations. However, there are women who choose to fight against this expectation by encouraging other women to be different -- to be individual, independent, fierce, ambitious, and themselves. One way they inspire each other is through songs. It is no different for P!nk, an American singer and songwriter, who is known for writing female-empowering songs. P!nk released her latest song titled “Just Like Fire” after she was asked to write a song for the movie Alice Through the Looking Glass.…
