The War on Religion
THE WAR ON RELIGION
The decade long War on Terror and Islamic Extremism has given rise to an aggressive and activist Atheist movement here at home. Islamic terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, Taliban, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, and others have apparently reinforced the atheistic belief that the problem is not terrorism, or even Islamic extremism, it is the belief in God and religion as a whole.
Although, it should be noted that Atheist groups rarely openly attack Islam, which on the one hand, would not be politically correct, and on the other, potentially dangerous. But it should also be pointed out that the radical Al Qaeda like sects make up a very small percentage of the overall number of Muslims around the world. The actions of a relative few have tainted the religion of over a billion people.
While Islam largely receives a pass, it is apparently PC to attack Christianity and Judaism at every turn. Nativity scenes, memorial crosses, have long been fair game, along with a seemly endless attack on our American religious freedoms and heritage. The Atheist war on religion has included a recent “Reason Rally” protest march in Washington DC, as well as public billboards displaying messages like “Jesus is just Santa Claus for Adults” and “You know it’s a Myth. This Season Celebrate Reason” and “God. Loving Slavery since 4000 BC”. However, the most ubiquitous Atheist symbol is the bumper sticker of the Darwin fish with legs, designed in mockery of the ancient Christian fish with the Greek letters ICQUS, which is the Greek word for both “fish” and an acronym for “Jesus Christ God’s Son Savior.”
Yet have these self-proclaimed champions of reason ever gotten beyond their biases and myth-tested their own core beliefs? The Atheists I have met, and listened to, display the same kind of blind faith in evolution that they accuse religious people of having toward God. But what if Charles Darwin was wrong? Shouldn’t reason cut both ways? Darwin’s Theory of Evolution provides an

After the recent events around the world, such as the numerous terrorist attacks and threatening natural disasters, individuals are left to cling to their religious beliefs for comfort and encouragement to press on. Some of these events have encouraged division between cultures, since many of the terrorist attacks are done in the name of their god. After the 2001 attack on the twin towers in New York, and the Pentagon, many people were leery of individuals who valued their Muslim beliefs. In fact, many Muslim worshippers were criticized and accused of having terrorist ties, when, in fact, the people who were actually responsible for the attack were extremists and radicals who took their religious beliefs and mixed them with their own demented thoughts. The truth of the matter is the act carried out that day does not effectively represent the beliefs of the common Muslim person. The rebuilding efforts are in full force today, with many people who have moved on and welcomed the start of their new life. It seems fitting that, in light of our…

I think the French Wars of Religion was more about religious differences because ever since the French nobles became Calvinists, they would show independence from the central power. It created the conflict between Catholics and Calvinists where power was the main struggle making religion become a way bigger issue. The last of the wars would be the war of the Three Henry’s where it showed the overall religious differences between the Catholics and the Protestants. Which this was between Henry III and Henry of Guise versus Henry IV.…

When Darwin published his revolutionary The Origin of Species, he forever influenced the world. It rocked the Christian religion to its very core, providing clear evidence that animals had not been formed in a few days, but evolved over billions of years from the simplest forms of life. Darwin’s theory directly contradicted the story of creation in the book of Genesis in the Bible, and as a result, instigated an uproar among the religious community. Many Christians felt, as do many today, that evolution undermined the existence of a God and is often related with atheism. Unlike other theories, like atomic theory, relativity, and gravity, evolution directly contradicts scripture in the Bible and so has significantly affected the Christian religion.…

John Scopes, a substitute high school teacher in Tennessee, was accused of violating the state’s Butler Act, which stated that the teaching of human evolution was forbidden in any state-funded school. During the trial, Scopes held his own, and was questioned on only biblical stories of God, rather than what seemed reasonable to him, which was Darwinism. Unable to fight back, Scopes was fined $100.00, but rather than backing down from the trial in the beginning, Mr. John Scopes fought fire with fire for as long as he could. He wanted to show the world that there are some flaws in the Bible that could not be explained thoroughly without a logical, scientific explanation. Not only that, but the Scopes Monkey Trial caused major national publicity by attracting the attention of famous lawyers, of which represented either side. After the trial took place, Modernists and Fundamentalists were now at war with each other. This case determined our future, and brought minds together, as well as apart, on whether or not a student’s curriculum should be centered around Darwinism or Religion. If John Thomas Scopes had not violated the law against teaching young students about the theory of evolution in local schools, society today would have been completely different. We would not have scientific evidence to…

The atheists’ core beliefs have already been brought to attention but in order for a complete argument to take place, a simple overview is not sufficient, so a more in depth analysis is needed to better understand this ideological battle.
