THE WAR ON RELIGION
The decade long War on Terror and Islamic Extremism has given rise to an aggressive and activist Atheist movement here at home. Islamic terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, Taliban, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, and others have apparently reinforced the atheistic belief that the problem is not terrorism, or even Islamic extremism, it is the belief in God and religion as a whole.
Although, it should be noted that Atheist groups rarely openly attack Islam, which on the one hand, would not be politically correct, and on the other, potentially dangerous. But it should also be pointed out that the radical Al Qaeda like sects make up a very small percentage of the overall number of Muslims around the world. The actions of a relative few have tainted the religion of over a billion people.
While Islam largely receives a pass, it is apparently PC to attack Christianity and Judaism at every turn. Nativity scenes, memorial crosses, have long been fair game, along with a seemly endless attack on our American religious freedoms and heritage. The Atheist war on religion has included a recent “Reason Rally” protest march in Washington DC, as well as public billboards displaying messages like “Jesus is just Santa Claus for Adults” and “You know it’s a Myth. This Season Celebrate Reason” and “God. Loving Slavery since 4000 BC”. However, the most ubiquitous Atheist symbol is the bumper sticker of the Darwin fish with legs, designed in mockery of the ancient Christian fish with the Greek letters ICQUS, which is the Greek word for both “fish” and an acronym for “Jesus Christ God’s Son Savior.”
Yet have these self-proclaimed champions of reason ever gotten beyond their biases and myth-tested their own core beliefs? The Atheists I have met, and listened to, display the same kind of blind faith in evolution that they accuse religious people of having toward God. But what if Charles Darwin was wrong?
