Then there are best friends, which also has many differences. There is Bonnie who is one of Elena’s best friends. In the books Bonnie is and small red headed Caucasian. She is an African American in the Television show. In both series she is a witch or in other words a psychic but in the book she is timid and does not like being a witch. On TV she is strong and scares vampires and likes who she is. Elena has another best friend in the book name Meredith, is not in the show at all. Caroline Forbes is the best friend of Bonnie and Elena in the show she is also turned into a Vampire in the first season. In the book Caroline is friends with Bonnie and Meredith but not Elena because of a popularity contest. Also in the book Caroline is not a Vampire she turns into a Werewolf after she gets pregnant with twins, Tyler’s is the father. For best friend changes TV wins, but I wish they would have left Meredith.
There are some male figures that are neither Elena’s friends nor enemies. Like in the book Tyler Smallwood know as Tyler Lockwood in TV show. Smallwood is Caroline’s ex and the father of her children he has the Werewolf gene. In the show Tyler is a nice guy and love Caroline and is best friends with Matt Donovan. And there is Matt Honeycutt know as Matt Donovan is Elena’s Ex and are on good terms. Matt is best friend with Elena’s present boyfriend (Stephan a vampire). In the show the Elena situation is all the same but Matt is not friends with Stephan. Matt dates Caroline for a little time. And my favorite character Alaric Saltzman; in the show he is Elena’s History teacher\Vampire hunter. Alaric dates Elena’s aunt Jenna and loves her. He also becomes close friends with Damon Salvatore Elena’s Vampire boyfriend’s older brother. In the book Alaric is not so interesting he is a teacher and dates Meredith Elena’s best friend. Sorry but in my opinion TV is beating the books butt.
The most important male characters in both show and books are the Salvatore brothers who are vampires. There is older brother Damon and younger brother Stephan that is the same in both show and book. In the television series Stephan is the nice sensitive brother who drinks animal blood but sometimes brakes and kills many people, Stephan is dating the main character Elena. Also in this series Damon is the brother who acts tuff but is soft inside he drinks human blood but does not kill crazily for fun, Damon is in love with Elena as well but are not in a relationship until the fourth season. In the book Stefan try’s to stay away from Elena because he is drawn to her but he has the same moral and finally gives in and loves her. Damon is mainly the same but as well as loving Elena he also love Bonnie. I think movie won this round.
There are many changes from the original books but I do not find these changes negative. Some make the story line more interesting and easier to understand. The books are very well written but I think I like the TV series better.
Not just because it is a show but also that it has more details about the story line before the show actually starts and makes it real. Your opinion is your opinion but Television won the battle ageist the Book

The most prominent change in characters is the personality of Virgil Tibbs. “Instead of being stretched out on the bench, he was wide awake and sitting up straight as though he were expecting something to happen. His coat was off and laid neatly beside him. He had been reading a paperback book up to the moment Sam entered...” (Pg. 15) This is almost identical to the scene where we are introduced to Virgil in the movie. However, the quick-thinking, cold and intense version to be seen later on in the movie was very surprising. The humble, clever and cool homicide investigator from the novel is much preferred. His collected manners also make it all the more enjoyable when…

Another big difference is about Johnny's mom at the hospital. In the book, the nurse comes in and tells Johnny that his mom is here to see him, and he tells them he does not want to see her. And, as Dally and Ponyboy are leaving, it shows her yelling at the nurse about how she wants to see him.In the movie it only mentions his mom at the hospital, with the nurse coming in and and telling Johnny that his mom was there.Although it was a small detail, it was a big difference.…

The changes in the movie are deeply flamboyant. One of the biggest changes is the main event for the cause of the Salem Trials. In the movie, the audience sees the girls running to the woods very surreptitiously, practicing witchcraft, in the play it was mentioned through dialogue in Act 1. In addition to changes, in the play Reverend Hale states that he signed 72 death warrants, but in the movie he signed 17 death warrants. There was only one deletion that I saw that was very noticeable. In the play when John Proctor was accused, he snached his warrant out of his wife Elizabeth's hand, but in the play he never showed any anger towards Elizabeth. Further…

In the book she did it herself; this changed the ending in many ways.…

Some of the characters in the film are how they are portrayed in the book, whereas many are quite different. In the book Ivy Lloyd (Poison Ivy) is Josie’s arch enemy and Carly is just someone who is mentioned in chapter 8, whereas in the movie Ivy and Carly have been blended into the same character. The fights between Josie and Ivy have been omitted and they don’t reconcile their differences at the end. Also in the book Josie has three friends, Anna, Sera and Lee but in the movie Lee has been blended into both Sera and Anna. In the book Lee has a different point of view and brings more to the group of friends. Other characters such as Josie (Pia Miranda), John Barton (Matthew Newton) and Michael Andretti (Anthony LaPaglia) are well casted in these roles for the movie because they looked like they were described in the book. Christina, Josie’s mum, looked too much like Marcus Stanford in the movie and in the book was described to look more Italian. All in all the characters in the movie were very good interpretations of the characters in the book.…

The only difference was one had a chance to leave eventually, the other did not. I personally did not enjoy the book immensely. There were some points that were interesting, but overall it was not my favorite. I was not able to feel connected to the book. The feel of the book overall was sadness, and even though I have felt sadness, it had never been that concentrated or painful. I did enjoy certain points, and I could relate slightly.
