The Underprivileged
The Underprivileged Almost nine-tenths of American school age children attend one of the over Ninety-eight thousand public schools based in one of the over fourteen thousand school districts throughout the United States, with Attendance usually based on geographic conveniences, though at times effected by other mitigating factors. As their sheer number suggests, quality ,conditions and overall environment in these institutions vary wildly, with some highly respected establishments over learning which send most of their students to institutions of higher learning and great many others considered for want of a better term glorified daycares for their students, many of whom never reach graduation. For every prominent private school or high quality public school, there a dozen less well thought of public schools. According to the U.S department of educations own website almost sixty percent of American public schools are categorized as Title one, with the number raising yearly, further increasing the likelihood that educators, particularly novices, are employed by one of these school. Fitting to their status, prestigious schools, both public and private are often much more selective in the hiring process, often taking a disportionate portion of experienced educators. Public school, Title one in particular are often considered less desirable, often due to their less than ideal locations and the difficulties of many of the students and have a considerably higher turn-over rate amongst faculty. Thus they much harder-pressed to fill a higher number of positions and are much more likely to hire an inexperienced teacher. The potential for academic growth amongst students who be fact have a lot to learn, is considerably higher than that of their counterparts. Many consider it one of if not the most gratifying experiences in education, helping a student reach goals they never thought achievable. Helping a student two reading grade levels below finally at long last reach their target level, instilling a sense of self-belief and diligent resolve in a child or teenager lacking it. Watching for like of a better phrase as the lightbulb flickers on for a struggling student. These experiences can make it all the trial, all the fruitless toil worth it. That and the Educator knowing that each and every day they can make a difference in a young person’s life offer a deep sense of fulfillment.

Doing work that matters
Put simply Title one students need highly motivated, quality educator’s disparately and thus it is here that many educators feel they can do the most good, making the most positive impact on their students. Providing, stability and guidance to students that may lack in home. Giving these unfortunate pupils what may be their sole positive adult figure. The impact of which cannot be overstated. A single teacher who cares can make all the difference for these students, the difference between a bright future and becoming a productive member of society or becoming

Shipler is the author of The Working Poor: Invisible in America, also winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his book Arabs and Jews: Wounded Spirits in a Promised Land, and a Journalist/ Foreign correspondent for the New York Times. Shipler is a well known author who shows have had plenty of life experiences and education, while studying society and trying to understand the situation of the poor in our country. He writes this remarkable book portraying the lives of fifteen people who are less fortunate than others with low- wage jobs or no job, bad life conditions, issues within family, immigrants, all faceing uncountable struggles with poverty. He began his research in 1997 while interviewing individuals in the lower class of society from all over the country, men and women, all ages, race, and living situation, for about five years. Shipler tries to understand and challenge these situation on all levels with politics and human behavior. No one story can explain all the point of views and encounters Shipler comes across, that is why all of these stories and examples were necessary. While reading their stories is very sad and frustrating at times this is reality told by the people themselves, with no simple way out.     I have lived in the southwest my entire life, and I understand the unique medical disparities that and specific to this area of the country. In becoming a physician I hope to provide care to underserved populations similar to the population I was raised in, and be a vocal advocate for increasing access to medicine in rural areas. Specifically at the CU SOM I am interested in CU-UNITE, and the Rural Track programs. These programs fit with my goals of providing care to underserved populations, and I look forward to firsthand experience and being immersed in the community while providing care. Working in Mother/Baby Care I see firsthand the effect that lack of access to health care has on families. For instance, we frequently deal with mothers who have had scant or no prenatal care because they did not have the means of getting to a doctor. These cases often require intensive care, and thusly a costly bill when preventative measures could have been more effective and more manageable in cost. With new legislation will come a need for innovative techniques for providing quick, cost effective care. Allowing students to gain experience and help facilitate the coming changes, is what I hope to bring to these tracks and experiences.…
