Analysis of Harold Cohen's Argument in The Undercover Parent
Garcia-Guzman, Julio 12/9/14 Period 4 Coben’s Argument Harlan Coben specifies his argument in “The undercover Parent” about how spyware should have its limits when used by parents. Coben argues that parents should have limits on how they use spyware to take care of their children on the internet because the parents could be taking their children’s privacy away. Harlan Coben has a different view of his argument because he doesn’t have children, that’s why he gives examples of stories he has been told to give the example why parents need to have limits for when they really need to be looking through children’s online websites to see what their children are doing. Whether on a computer or on a cellphone children could be on dangerous cites that could have material children should not be seeing, according to coben’s argument children could always be in danger when it comes to online use. Coben agrees with parents talking to their children to ask if there is someone bothering them or if something is wrong than just completely spying on them. Coben argues that parents should not completely spy on their children online use. Evidence that is given by Coben in ‘The Undercover parent” is “To borrow from the national intelligence lexicon-and yes that’s uncomfortable-you’re listening for dangerous character.”(pg.11).This piece of evidence backs up Cobens argument because it says that parents are not just to spy on their children’s privacy but looking for what’s the danger in their privacy.
