Gay- Straight Alliance
A survey by the GLSEN, found that 64% of homosexual students had experienced harassment in school. More recently, ABC News reports that a Campus Pride Study found that gay students are more likely to seriously consider leaving school due to discrimination over their sexual orientation. (Guest Author,2011).
In conducting my experiential activity, I discovered that like any other social event, the topics of discussion were centered on how to get the attention of others that are not around. In this Population of students they were concerns about why certain individuals’ are afraid to, identify with who they are as a person beyond close doors.
The students were assuring each other that they were not concern about what people thought concerning the person they were in a relationship with. They were comfortable with being seen in public by others in dating the same sex or experiences what it is like living as the opposite sex mentally.
Challenges I noticed in some conversations were that the students’ had discussed their gay or lesbian relationships with their parents.
Some students indicated, that due to certain religious beliefs their parents would kick them out of house due to family morals and beliefs.
Other’s concern was being able to face the people that they had grew up with since grade school. They felt as though their friends would lose respect for them and not associate with them under any circumstances, because of betrayal and trust issues.
As educators it is very important that stress the importance of accepting one’s opinion and beliefs regardless if it different from what we believe. During group presentations are social groups mix students up in group, don’t allow them to pick their own groups. This allows students to identify with individuals, based on their feelings, comments, and concerns and not how we view them from the

On the night of February 10, 2007, 13-year-old Kyle Koslop ended his life in his bedroom. He was the 38th person in Luzerne County under the age of 24 to commit suicide since the year of 2000 (Grochowski). Last year, at least three more students from Luzerne County committed suicide; two students from Pittston Area and one student from Nanticoke. Suicide is a serious problem among adolescents because there are many pressures and obstacles adolescents do not know how to cope with. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among 15-24-year-olds (Harpaz) because feelings of being overwhelmed and alone are sometimes unrecognized, and because teenagers can be victims of bullying.…

The challenges that the LGBT population face are neither new nor surprising but the need to address them is certainly relevant (Thiel, 2010). In fact, it appears that for as much progress that has been made on some campuses, there has been no progress on others. The presence of violence and harassment, as well as the desire for inclusion and justice, indicates the need for attention and research as a chilly campus climate can make for a distressing experience for LGBT students, faculty, and staff.…

The results concluded that the primary reason was due to “physical appearance,” and the secondary reason was due to “sexual orientation and gender identity.” In comparison, a second study was done by GLSEN in 2007 that also concluded 86% of LGBT youth had reported experiencing bullying in school. The National Center for Education Statistics reported in 2013 that the percentage was extremely high in comparison to the 27% of all students that are being bullied in school. Not only is the LGBT community being bullied by peers, strangers, and social media, but they are also bullied by their families. (LGBT Bullying Statistics, 2016)…

Thank you, for your feedback on my paper. I chose the LGBTQ population for a couple of reasons. First, I believe that gay, lesbians, transgender people face discrimination in society. Over the last twenty years, there have been significant improvements to help reduce the stigma of an alternative lifestyle. In the last couple of years, laws have been into place to reduce that discrimination. However, the LGBTQ faces an uphill battle with obtaining equal rights even in today's society. Second, with more acceptance of LGBTQ population younger people are coming out at an earlier age in life. Adolescents face many challenges as it is growing up. Adding the additional stress of the coming out process can impact these teens in many…

Love is something that everyone, across the Nation, should be allowed to experience and enjoy at some point in their lives. It is unfortunate that love is and will be a challenge for some. Gay couples, for example, have been confronted with obstacles relative to their relationships and desire to openly express their love publicly without ridicule. Most Gays could not reveal their sexual preference without the fear of being judged. Based on media exposure, reality television and magazine articles, some Gays, male and female, have shared their fears and articulated their concerns about their love for the same sex. The fears were created from previously reported attacks, biases and the lack of understanding the sexual differences.…

One of the most common problem that transition students faced is how to get involved with people. Most of them don’t have any relatives or friends in Kent, Ohio. Some of them got involved easily than others. As for relations, some of the trans-students maintained their relationships, as their parents and friends because they see it as a priority. Other trans-students did not because they were busy with their college lives.…

These newly formed bathroom bills that many states are adopting have had a multitude of negative effects on transgender students all around the nation. Kristie Seelman, a professor at Georgia State University, conducted a study among students at the college published in the “Journal of Homosexuality”. In her study, Seelman surveyed the impact of being denied access to restroom facilities among transgender students. Seelman noticed a correlation between transgender students who have been denied accesses to restroom facilities verses students who had not. She found that these individuals were more likely to commit suicide compared to students who had not been denied accesses. Of the people surveyed 60.6 percent of the students said that they attempted suicide when they were not allowed assesses to certain…

Nobody really knows why. These students may have something in common which is same-sex attraction; however, each person can be so much different. After little observation, I came up with the idea that the way these gay students behave, think and react can be compared with some animal’s behavioural patterns.
