Although the benefits and rewards of becoming a physician may change, my heart for serving others will not. I consider the salary of a practicing doctor to be a bonus; my motivation to become a doctor is tied to my love for science and knowledge. When evaluating possible career avenues, I search for something I enjoy doing. I also aspire to find a job that keeps me interested and requires me to learn continuously. I expect the MedEx Academy to present me with skills and knowledge of medicine that will challenge and prepare me as a pre-med student. As a participant in the MedEx Academy, I would provide other students with encouragement, support, and competition. I hope that I am fortunate enough to be selected for this rare experience.f f f ff.f.f. dfdd,ds,s,,f,d,d,f,,sf,f,fs,s.f.f.f.f.f.f.f.f.f..f.f.f.f.f.f f. khjlgygiuyg. With less than a year left of school, I’ve been applying myself in so many different areas in order to better myself as a future doctor. Volunteering, shadowing and extra-curricular activities have all been part of my doings. I've got to admit these past three and a half years have been, by far, extremely interesting and challenging. I have been learning about life, health, body systems and their functions. It is fascinating to learn about the biological and chemical make-up of the human body and the countless processes that are occurring constantly within us. I am looking forward to entering medical school to learn in an even greater detail about the many different interactions with our body systems.…

Throughout my education, science based courses have been a central core. One course that left an indelible mark was called, “Medical Careers”. I had the invaluable opportunity to shadow and learn hands-on material from both doctors and nurses at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Hospital. It was not until then that I decided to pursue a career in the medical field. However, in such an extensive field, it was difficult to narrow down to a single profession.…

My goals for residency are simple – to continuously learn in order to educate and heal. Although I have been involved in the community in various ways for many years, I am truly excited to start giving back to society from a different perspective – that of a physician, of a person’s first stop in their most vulnerable of times. Family Medicine is a broad field that will challenge me in many ways, but I am ready to enhance my knowledge in a program that fosters learning through a supportive, team approach where patients and their futures are the greatest concerns.…

Growing up, seeing my mother and godmother aspiring to become medical assistants began to enhance my interest in the medical field. Skimming through their textbooks intrigued me on how the human body is extremely complex yet I found it to be so captivating. As time progressed, I became even more intrigued in pursuing a career in the medical field. Taking rigorous science courses such as Anatomy, Med-Lab and Microbiology, heightened my enthusiasm as I had finally begun to prepare for my future endeavours. Currently, my aspirations lie towards Pediatrics. With frequent visits to the doctor’s office due to illnesses and infections from my vesicoureteral reflux as a child, the health care setting became a place I was comfortable with. Furthermore, my experiences volunteering at Kids Come First Community Health Clinic and tutoring disadvantaged children through Project Literacy have confirmed my desire to work with this population. The early primary care clinical experiences and required primary care clerkships will help confirm that Pediatrics is the ideal fit for me.…

Attending medical school was my lifelong dream, but attending the University of Maryland School of Medicine has been so important that that I have been preparing for it since I started going to college. Getting in to medical school requires an outstanding academic excellence and other extracurricular activities, and I as well as other premedical students work very hard to attend one, but many of us do not know what the life of a particular medical student looks like.
