The Things I Carry
I carry things that are a necessity for school. For example, I carry a backpack, and inside I have two pencils, a pen, and papers. One of the pencils that I carry with me I have like an emotional attachment to it because i have had it for three years and I feel like it’s my lucky pencil and must carry it everyday. Other things I carry in my backpack is Sunscreen, books, and a binder. These things are important because sunscreen is so I protect myself from the sun, the books I have for the classes I have, and the binder is for me to stay organized. I also carry another duffel bag that has my running shoes for training, running shoes for racing, deodorant, shorts, and a workout shirt. A main physical thing I carry is my phone. Some other physical things I carry are a Camelbak Water bottle, a running watch, and my wallet. …show more content…
They are significant to my life because these are the things that most people know me for. The significance of being athletic is that most people, teachers, and coaches know who i am because of the sports. Also, Teachers and coaches know that i always try my hardest in everything whether it’s in studies or sports. What also defines me is that i am generous, reliable, and practical with almost everything. These things are important in my life because these are also some thing that friends and family know me best

The things that the soldiers carried with them are both tangible and intangible. What these items are depends upon each of the soldiers.     Throughout author Tim O’Brien’s “The Things They Carried”, one sees how tangible items help the soldiers cope with the horrors of war. The short story is set during the Vietnam War and follows the lives of the Alpha Company, a group of U.S soldiers. Some soldiers in the story are given items to carry specific to their job and rank in the military. For example the main character, First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross, carries the maps and compasses as the platoon’s leader and Rat Kiley, the company’s medic, carries morphine and other medical supplies he may need to treat his fellow soldiers. All the soldiers must carry essential items such as P-38 can openers, pocket, knives, heat tabs, wristwatches, dog tags, mosquito repellent, salt tablets, lighters, sewing kits, C rations, and canteens of water.
