The Theme of Loneliness in Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men

John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" was set just outside Soledad in Southern California, and it was written in 1937. This novel is a very tragic; because it illustrates the hopeless some dreams were broken. George and Lennie’s dream of owning their own big house with animals. And a friend has to kill his own best friend for to prevent further cruelty its sake. Other characters are Crooks, Curley’s wife and Candy.
This novel is a tragic story. Lennie and George want to work on the ranch in the hopes of making enough money to buy their own farm, where they can be independent and in charge of their own destiny. Maybe with this new job, they'll get what they've hoped for all along. The story of the little farm, with the rabbits and vegetable patch and hayrides, is less like a plan and more like a fairy tale.
When Lennie killed Curley’s wife, but it was an accident; Lennie didn’t know what he was doing, he was trying to stop the girl screaming. He was too scared if George find out that he “done a real bad thing” this time, so he decided to go back to the river side where George told him if he gets trouble.
Some people feel sadness and suffered. One of them was Candy who felt sad when he let Carlson to kill his dog, "Well-hell! I had him so long. Had him since he was a pup", and Candy said after, "I shouldn't ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog".
Curley’s wife felt sadness as well, living in a ranch with no one to talk to, because everyone thinks that she is a troublemaker. "I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely." "What's the matter with me? Ain't I got a right to talk to nobody?" "Seems like they ain't none of them cares how I gotta live". These quotes could exactly tell you how Curley’s wife feels lonely, because none of the men living in a ranch wants to talk to her.
