The Snow It Melts the Soonest - a Portrayal of Love
The Snow It Melts The Soonest - A portrayal of love

”The snow it melts the soonest when the winds begin to sing
And the corn it ripens faster as the frosts are setting-in
And when a young man tells me that my face he’ll soon forget, before we part he’ll tell me that he’d be fain to follow it yet

The snow it melts the soonest when the winds begin to sing
And the swallow flies without a thought long as it is spring
But when spring goes and winter blows my love still firm will be
I know you’re proud with will as steal, but belive that I say what I mean

The snow it melts the soonest when the winds begin to sing
And the bee that flew when summer shone in winter he won’t sing
And all the flowers in the land so brightly they may be
And the snow it melts as soon as when my true love comes for me

So don’t you bid me farewell, no farewell I recive
You hold me in your arms once more then kiss and take your leave
And I’ll be here waiting for you, I promise that I will
For the snow it melts the soon as when the winds begin to sing”

Thus goes this old, but still so beautiful, tune about a young couple falling in love. The lyrics has many different interpretations and are told from different points of view, but the core message is the same; how powerful love can be and the troubles and blessings that comes with it. Love is symbolized in the nature, and it’s different phases are described in the changing of the seasons, animals, plants etc. Winter symbolizes the hard times most must go through, when you must struggle to stay together. It may also be a symbol to love without reciveing the same feelings from the one who is the creator of these affections. The spring is a symbol of blissful happiness, incipient love and passionate feelings. This song encourage us to stay presistent when facing times of troubles, and it wishes to inflict hope to the ones that are about to give in.
The line ” the snow it melts the soon as when the winds begin to sing”

Figurative language and sensory imagery is used in the first stanza to create a tone of grieving, loss and nostalgia, through imagery of a dull ‘cold dusk’ and ‘frail, melancholy flowers among ashes’. The simile ‘the melting west is striped like ice-cream’ creates a sense of transition, reflecting the beginning of the persona’s introspective retreat into her thoughts. The use of an anaphora, which is the repetition of a word at the beginning of lines or sentences, in the line ‘Ambiguous light. Ambiguous sky’ also displays this transience. The symbol of ice-cream also represents childhood and a feeling of nostalgia for that time in the persona’s life. Her attempt at ‘whistling a trill’ may be an attempt to imitate her father’s whistling which is mentioned during the reflection of her memory, suggesting that she is trying to recreate her past experience but can’t properly do so. The persona’s direct speech in the line “Where’s morning gone?” is a rhetorical question that is questioning the…

In a thousand ports, and in me. It tells of smashing surf when I sweated in the cold of an anxious watch, perched in the bow as it dashed under cliffs. My feet were cast in icy bands with frost, with frozen chains, and hardships groaned around my heart. Hunger tore at my sea-weary soul. On an ice-cold sea, whirled in sorrow, alone in a world blown clear of love, hung in icicles. The hailstorm flew. (5-17)…

The poet also uses imagery such as ‘lakes and ‘swans’, to symbolise the peacefulness, and also to symbolise love. You notice words that show the subject is not alone, with ‘we’ and ‘our’. These words and also the motion of the swans, the lake, and the peacefulness are foreshadowing that the poem will take a turning onto love that is more literate. However I don’t think that the poems theme is so much about love in particular, but about a natural love, a natural pull that brings two people together even after hard times.…

    Thoughts of Winter

In Refining Reading and Writing, "Thoughts of Winter" is defined as "Winter is the season that receives most attention from us through our scientific explanation, our mythological ideas and our personal determination." (Santiago,2008, pp.82-83). I strongly agree with this statement. In scientific clarification, winter comes every year because of northern hemisphere is twisted away from the sun, so the world is evenly distributed by the solar radiation. It always has cold, dark snow everywhere. Second, mythological thoughts make winter so special. Evaluate to other seasons, there are many good beliefs and memorable myths about winter. Finally, Winter has advantage and disadvantage in our life. It makes us sadden, week, lazy, and sometimes it occurs skin disease because lack of vitamin D could affect in our body. On the other hand, winter has many indoor and outdoor actions which makes us overjoyed.…

    My Favourite Poem

This is my favourite poem as it describes hope by using a powerful array of metaphors to enhance its effect. While it is true that many people all over the world live in extremely challenging and life threatening situations, leading hard lives in appalling conditions. What keeps people going in such circumstances is the glimmer of hope that things can change. This is one thought that came to mind when first reading the poem and this is what attracted me to it and as it relates to any hopeless situations it really does apply to all aspects of life.…
