The Snidget Sanctence: A Short Story: Luna Lovegood's Tale
“You’re a curious creature,” she observed. Luna Lovegood was at a Snidget Sanctury, a wizarding reservation for the Golden Snidget. Now a woman of twenty-two, Luna Lovegood had become a Magizoologist, travelling the world and examining rare specimens. Not many people were allowed into the Sanctury, but being a wizarding naturalist, she had privileges.
Bending down, she put her notebook under her arm and stuck her wand behind her ear. She held a gentle hand out to the tiny bird. It darted out of the way, unbelievably nimble, and flew into the trees. She rose and gazed up at it, holding her bright yellow hat so it did not slip from her head.
“They’re fast,” a voice said.
Luna cast her eyes down. A man of her age was standing a few feet from

So hello, I’m Luna Lovegood, Magizoologist.” She held out a pale hand.
He made an nervous noise and raised his hand a little too fast, which knocked into hers awkwardly before managing to shake it. “Rolf Scamander,” he burst out, “a-also a Magizoologist.”
“Scamander,” she remarked, nearly lost in thought. She knew he had looked vaguely familiar. “Are you the grandson of Newton Artemis Fido Scamander?”
“Uh yes,” he bobbed his head. “Yes I am.”
Luna reminisced in another memory, “My father once wrote an article about him. He said that Newt was actually a shy turtle Transfigured into a human being.”
Rolf blinked slowly and cocked his head slightly, “Ah, what newspaper does your father write for?”
“It’s a magazine, actually. He’s the editor.” She reached into her lavender purse and brought out the newest edition of The Quibbler.
He gasped, “I love reading that!” Then he blushed, embarassed about his outburst. “I-I just, the parts about—reading about all those cool creatures…even if there’s no proof that they exist…”
“I understand perfectly!” Luna said, pleased. She was about to go on, but a small chirping drew her attention

It flew from side to side, left to right on its fully rotational wings, gold feathers glinting in the afternoon sun.
“I came here to study them,” she said thoughtfully. “Not much information exists, you see, since they’re so hard to catch.”
Rolf Scamander brightened, “D’you want me to get that one for you?”
She arched her pale brows, “How?”
He just smiled, looking at ease now that he knew what to do. He pulled his wand from his pocket, along with a hankerchief. Rolf aimed his wand carefully at the Snidget, “Accio Snidget.”
The bird flew over and landed softly on the cloth. He rubbed its head soothingly with a fond finger, and it settled down. Rolf beamed rather proudly at Luna.
“You’re better with creatures than humans,” she said matter-of-factly, eyes sparkling. Before he could reply, she went on, “We have that in common.”
He continued to stroke the Snidget’s small head. “Can you believe that these cute creatures were used in Quidditch?”
The former Ravenclaw’s voice grew steely, “It’s horrible. It’s fortunate that they were replaced with the Snitch.”
Rolf peeked up at her, “I agree.”
She peered at the Snidget, making sure not to get too close and frighten it. The curve of its beak told her it was a girl. “May I hold

“Oh...” She continues to think over what she would like first and then decides with a cluck of her tongue. “What I want more than anything is to have long golden locks, the likes of which would make all the men of my village swoon and all the women praise!” She took a bunch of her mousy brown hair and scrutinized it warily. “Yes, that is what I want. Hair as golden as the sun.” She looked down at the gremlin with grim…

Mahpe hummed happily to himself as he diligently worked in the burning daylight. Occasionally, Mahpe would shade his eyes to look upon a large white bird that was racing across the deep blue sky, then he would continue with his work, painting the center of the flowers yellow. Above him, the bird decided to see how fast he could dive down to the lush green fields below him. The bird soared down with raging speed, then pulled himself up sharply before touching the tips of the grass. As he…

The bubbles in the tub had mostly popped or gotten smaller, she mostly just saw their two pruney half-bruised, tangled bodies in a little pink puddle. "There's more of these, you know. I hid them from Dawn behind the tums in the medicine cabinet."…

Looking into the crowd in school I’ve always seen stereotypical high schoolers, but taking a step back from my normal outlook, I see teens who are just trying to make it in this world. High school is not the most loving and accepting atmospheres, believe it or not. It sadly doesn’t live up to the grandiose expectations that are depicted in movies. Everyone puts on a façade when really the people we are trying to impress are in the same boat. So why are we hiding? If there is anything that high school has taught me, it’s that uniqueness isn’t something to fear or hide, but something to embrace. Because of this, my eccentricity, thoughtfulness, and care free spirit most closely relates to J.K. Rowling’s Luna Lovegood.…
