The Skating Party
Nathan Reveals The Truth By:

Nathan Singleton confessed the truth about what had really happened to Delia Sykes and
Eunice Lathem, Nathan’s x- fiancée during the night of the skating party. “That night of the skating party was dark. One minute you could see everyone’s faces and the next they would all disappear”, said Nathan. That night the two sisters Delia Sykes and Eunice Lathem were skating together and they suddenly fell down through the thin ice and Nathan had quickly skated to save them but he was able to save only one and it happened to be Delia. “I could see their hands on the edge of the ice... The one “ The part of the lake where Delia Sykes and Eunice Lathem fell through ” pair of arms had white fur around them and
I reached for the other pair, I was blinded with love for Delia”, said Nathan.

During the skating party Nathan first skated with Eunice and then Delia asked him for a skate, They started to skate farther and farther away from the party. “I asked her, Do you want to turn back? But Delia didn't want to turn back”, said Nathan. Just when they were going back to join the party Eunice saw them coming together and assumed Nathan was cheating on her “She knew as well as I did, that whatever we were doing out there, it was more than skating… My first love was actually Delia before I found out she was married”, said Nathan.

To get out of the unwanted situation Nathan suggested them to go for a skate and then after a while people heard the two sisters calling for help and everyone skated as quickly as possible towards them. The ice was so thin that they couldn’t save them both so it either had to be Delia or Eunice. “It was dark we couldn’t see their face but I could see that Nathan was confused on which hand to help up”, said a guest at the party who also helped Nathan save the two girls.

Nathan Singleton is not facing any charges as the police says there was no chance for him to save both because it was a save one or the other situation. “By looking at the situation it’s clear that he chose to save Delia first but he was helpless on the fact that he couldn’t save them both”, said officer Nancy.

After that incident Delia has left willows Bunch for good as for Nathan who is still making the judgment on his decision to save Delia as he says; I wonder if I would have felt any better about it if I saved Eunice instead of Delia.

There is a clear example of missing information in this story: Uncle Nathan sketches the stone man for Maida, and his sister teasingly suggests that he has “forgotten” something when drawing the “very complete” stone man. What is Summers hinting at here, and how does the drawing Uncle Nathan has made represent Uncle Nathan himself? (How is he like the “incomplete” stone man he has drawn?)…

I started figure skating when I was 8 years old. I went to a birthday party at an ice rink, and signed up for skating shortly after. More advanced skaters filled the middle of the rink, doing spins and jumps. I fell in love the sport. I like how it was good for both summer and the winter. The feeling of you gliding around the ice in fun-filled strokes was amazing. My classes were amusing and I loved learning new things.…

Throughout the novel, How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster, the author elucidates that several interpretations can be drawn regarding the meaning of a story. For example, in chapter 27 entitled “The Test Case”, Foster explores this very claim by providing the interpretations linked to “The Garden Party” by Katherine Mansfield. In his novel he states that these interpretations range from the disparities between social classes, to a representation of hell and the journey Persephone, the captive of Hades, goes on. Foster’s novel presents the idea that the quest of characters in a story can represent the journey to hell because of the conflict that arises, this explains how the use of allusions allows readers to comprehend…

the modern short story form with her innovative literary style. In such influential stories as "The Garden Party," "Bliss," and "Prelude," Mansfield perfected her meticulous craft, examining the human condition in restrained and deceptively everyday prose. Her avowed intention was to intensify "the so-called small things so that everything is significant." In "The Garden Party," for example, the description of sunbeams playing on an inkwell is the kind of detailed observation that lends an almost hallucinatory visual acuity to this celebrated tale. In her attention to the "the so-called small things," Mansfield was in the forefront of those writers who treated ordinary life rather than momentous events, and, according to H. E. Bates, many followed her "in squeezing the significance out of the apparently commonplace, trivial behavior of their fellow men." Working on the fringes of British Modernism, Mansfield developed the use of stream-of-consciousness technique, earning the admiration—and rivalry—of a contemporary, Virginia Woolf. Like Woolf, Mansfield emphasized the importance of incident over conventional narrative, and thus, in "The Garden Party" Laura's impressions dictate the shape of a story drawn from Mansfield's own childhood memories.…
