And in a sense, "Uncle Tom's Cabin", this is definitely not children's book - the book is primarily about children of Eve (Evangeline), Enrique, Harry (Harris), Topsy (seventeen years before this naughty girl Negro is baptized and leaves a missionary in Africa), faith in the "Be like children." It is for the violence "against defenseless children, girls and women," Augustin Saint-Clair "ready to curse their homeland ..."…

Topics such as, “Girls’ changing bodies in puberty, size discrimination, media literacy, assertiveness and response strategies to bullying”(Reel et al. (2010) pg. 111). This openness allows the girls to say what’s on their mind about things that rarely get talked about. We think that our program could use a time each week to allow the participants to talk freely about what they have learned and get advice from the instructors, as well as their peers. Another component of the program that we will be considering for our program will be the use of professional educators. Reel et al. (2010) had “staff including two Health Promotion and Education graduate students and two professionals (a Ph.D. and Licensed Clinical Service Worker) who attended the weekly sessions”(pg. 110). This lets the parents know that well-educated individuals are administering the program. We considered holding our program during school and using teachers to be in charge of teaching the students. Instead, we thought it best to allow people who know the information best to educate the…

Janet Mock told people that she wants to interrogate her experiences in her book to show how she can be relatable to people. She did not think much about her writing because they were just conversations and life experiences. Her writings included about the painful choices her parents made and how they treated her. Her mom wanted to do the best she can for her child, but the journey for her father was intense. Janet mentioned that her father was not there for most of her transitional journey. Her father is slowly trying to understand what her story is, and he has read the book. He is starting to be there for her and ask her question about who she is.…

I chose the quote,"You cannot open a book without learning something" by the Irish proverb because I can relate it to my favorite book,"The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton which taught me lots of stuff that I did not know about. The book is about a 14 year old named Ponyboy and his two brothers Darry who is 16 and Sodapop who is 20 years old. Darry is in charge of them due to both of his parents dying in a car accident. They are all greasers in a gang and often watch over Johnny ,who is another greaser, because his alcoholic parents abuse him. They also have a gang rivalry with the Socs who are rich and pick on the poor.…

The title of this book relates to the story, because in the book, Ponyboy and Johnny are "outsiders." They can be thought of as Outsiders because they are labeled Greasers although they do not act like hoodlums, like the rest of the Greasers. They are thought of as Greasers just because they live on the East Side of town, and because they slick back their hair. But Ponyboy and Johnny are different then all of the other Greasers because they show their emotions, and are sensitive.…

The Hot House tells the story of life inside Leavenworth Prison in Kansas. It was named the hot house because of the lack of ventilation and its dangerous prison population. There are many layers to the experiences inside the prison, but the reader is consistently reminded that there is a code of behavior that exists inside its walls and being labeled a snitch is the kiss of death. A level of mental instability may have lead these inmates to commit crimes that make them become prisoners, but this same instability also leads to making the world inside the prison much more complicated. Prison world is “drama-driven” in an environment of survival and the constant need to be respected. Respect has a different meaning in prison because it can easily determine your survival and the quality of life prison holds.…

In its’ premise, or reason, the article indicates that cyberbullying is more prevalent in middle and high schools, because the use of cell phones, the Internet, and other technological paraphernalia plays a significant role in the social lives of nearly all adolescents. While hatred has existed since the beginning of time, the invention of the Internet has helped to spread hatred and prejudice more quickly and more forcefully than ever before. Cyberbullying has been widely reported and broadcast on the news when there have been suicides as a result of cyber harassment, and intimidation occurring. Many schools in the U.S. have already adopted anti-bias training programs established by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to put workshops into middle and high schools for their educators and students. Forty-one states in the U.S., including California, have adopted some regulations mandating that schools implement anti-bullying laws, which are based on the ADL’s model; however, more states need to adopt more comprehensive policies to guard against bullying.…
