The seven wonders of the World
There are many wonderful places in the world, all of them worth seeing. Some are natural, like de great Mount Everest, and some are manmade, like de Eiffel Tower.
These many places have been classified for years in many categories, the most beautiful ones, the tallest, the largest, the smallest, etc. But there is one list that has prevailed through the years. This classifies the most outstanding and worth seeing places in the world: The Seven Wonders of the World.
Now, this list divides itself into two different main ones:
The seven wonders of the ancient world and the Seven Wonders of the World, which are the “actual” ones.
First I will explain the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The first of them all, and the only one remaining in place, are the pyramids of Giza. The three pyramids are located in Egypt, and are very famous now. The largest of them, the pyramid of Keops, has an estimated height of 482 feet and was finished on 2680 before Christ.
Then we have the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, now destroyed; they were built for the queen Amhuia, in 600 b. C. They were built atop of a vaulted building, and the highest of them was supposed to be at 300 ft. from the ground!
Another proud member of the list is the Statue of Zeus, at Olympia. The only references that we have are now in some old coins, but it is said that it was more than 40 ft. high. It was made of gold and ivory.
Now we have the Temple of Artemis, or Diana. This temple has columns that measure more than 60 ft. but sadly it was destroyed by the Goths when they invaded it.
Also there is The Mausoleum, built by Queen Artemisia in honor of his husband, Mausolus. It is said to have been a gigantic structure, but now just some pieces of them remain at the British museum. This is why today we have Mausoleums in graveyards.
