The San Luis Valley
The San Luis Valley is nothing to joke about, especially at night. I found that out first hand not too long after moving to Denver from Key West, FL. Now a lot of people say that Key West FL, also known as Cayo Hueso (Island of Bones), is one of the most haunted places in North America. I’ve lived there my whole live and never saw as much paranormal activity as I did in 2 hours of being in The San Luis Valley at night.

Moving to Denver was a huge change but it was just what me and me girlfriend of 5 years needed. Not long after we settled in I started getting a little stir crazy and I needed to do something awesome, like a road trip. I have already heard about The San Luis Valley and everything about it intrigued me. The valley is host to such events as the first cattle mutilations, it has ghost, skin walkers, Sand dunes, the town of Crestone, all the way to the the worlds first UFO watch tower which was my selling point and had me packing my bags before I could finish the thought.

My girlfriend and I decided to make a trip out there one weekend in mid August to view the biggest meteor shower of the year and the watchtower, being one of the darkest places in the country, was where we would go. Also it increased my chances of seeing my first UFO, so my girlfriend didn’t have much to choose from. Over the river and through the woods and roughly 4 hours later we arrived in Alamosa, CO. We waited till 3 in the morning for the sky to darken and made our way to the UFO Watchtower. In all honesty the place was so creepy that we turned around twice not knowing if we should follow through with our plans, eventually we found courage and parked the car right behind the watchtower and sat in silence. I was tired of procrastinating and convinced my girlfriend that it would be okay, so we stepped out of the car.

The feeling that immediately rushed over us was unsettling, like we were being watched. As we stood outside of the car not a word was said, not a grain

Mission San Luis was found to be the only settlement besides St. Augustine to house hundreds of Spanish residents among the Florida’s native people for at least three generations. It was known to early Europeans as the Apalachees native “Capital” village which was active from 1656 to 1704. In 1656 the Apalachee Indians decided to move their village to the second highest hill in present-day Tallahassee, where Mission San Luis is currently located off Tennessee Street. Using groups of palm-thatches, they quickly built their village. The central plaza was where ceremonies, business dealings, and ballgames were held. The largest building was the council house that could hold up to 3,000 people. The council house was where the chiefs held their…

Certain areas of the ground were covered with snow while others led to huge drop-offs. We were told that if we looked as far as the eye can see in the given direction, we could see all the way out to Kansas. My brother came down with altitude sickness at this point and he had to rest on the way back down. Overall, it was a great experience full of quirks and I’d do it again tomorrow if I could.…
