CASE STUDY - ROLE OF VISION AT MENTOR GRAPHICS 1. How would you describe the way vision was used at Mentor Graphics?
Based on case study the role of vision at Mentor Graphics, the way vision was used is always change. This changing can be show when Gerard Tan, president of Mentor Graphics Company has always change company vision from unarticulated vision to “Build Something That People will Buy”,. The second vision used by the company is “Beat Daisy” that driven by the need to survive as a business. The next vision was develop is “Six Boxes” which represented the six different businesses in which they sought market leadership and left with a “Five Boxes”. Lastly the vision that the company develop is “10x Imperative”. In early 1990s, the company realization that the company’s vision detracted from what the company was actually about led to the dumping of the vision detracted from what the company was actually about led to the dumping of the vision and the replacement with one that echoed the early beginning of the company which is “Build Something That People will Buy” was seen as a more pragmatic vision for a company that had lost its way, caught up in a cycle of visions that were increasingly irrelevant to the company’s core business and that inhibited their ability to make sound business decisions.
