The most important individual in bringing about the change in influence is Vladimir Lenin, who brought about a sudden sharp rise in the party’s popularity. Following the 1917 October Revolution, Lenin became the leader of the Communist Party and greatly increased the party’s political influence with his ‘one party state’. Lenin’s creation of the Politburo in 1919, which was a group of eight high profile party members who influenced any decision being made, demonstrates the party’s increased political influence by showing their domination of governmental bodies. Public support of the party is obvious in the increase of RCP membership, March 1919 to March 1920, from 250,000 to 612,000. This may have been due mainly to Lenin retaining his power through the 1918 civil war. In 1921, Lenin introduced his New Economic Policy, aimed at gaining peace with the peasant class, which resulted in the ending of armed resistance to the communists. This support increased the Russian Communist Party’s (RCP) public influence greatly, backed in rural areas as well as urban working class districts. Due to all these factors, Lenin is the most important individual in changing the influence of the Russian communist party between 1905 and 1945.…
Stalinism, the term used to embody the form of government experienced by the Soviet Union under Stalin’s rule, had a significant and lasting impact on the USSR. Stalinism impacted on several aspects of life. Collectivisation was introduced which assisted in the funding of industrialisation, terror was used to create a communist state. Stalin centralised every aspect of life, from the single leadership of Stalin himself to party control of the state and its functions. Free will disappeared and service to the state was expected. Consequently a Stalinist state which had a major impact on the USSR was created.…

a. Thesis. Kennan argues that the Soviet Union views itself as leading a perpetual war against capitalism. Anti-capitalist ideology is the method to retain power. However, the Soviet Union is vulnerable, but it will require a long term, and persistent strategy of firm containment. The success of this strategy will greatly rely on America’s greatness.…
Approximately 110 million lived in Russia, also Russia was socially and economically backwards compared with other Great Powers. What is communism? And how did it enter Russia? Communism is a political theory, which Karl Marx thought of, which…
The 1950’s dealt with threats from the USSR and Communism which scared many people in the United States and soon became a full-fledged paranoia. There was fear of falling behind the advances of the Communist countries, especially among the Soviet Union, creating the Red Scare. As the Cold War with the USSR escalated, Americans increased their suspicions of Communist influences. Due to this, a special committee was formed in order to investigate Communists in America known as HUAC (The House Un-American Activities Committee). In 1947, HUAC accused ten people in Hollywood of supporting communist propaganda becoming blacklisted. As time went on, more individuals were being suspected of being Communists which eventually led to the act of McCarthyism…
Despite the poor working conditions and the inequality that industrialization under capitalism creates (“The Industrial Revolution and Economic Growth”, 529) it is still a necessary step for Russia because it lays the groundwork for a successful socialist and eventually communist system of government that will allow all members of Russia to flourish. “[The Communist] openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions;”(Carl Marks and Friedrich Engel, The Communist Manifesto) Therefore it is important to note that capitalism is an impractical form of government that should not be implemented for any long term scenario it is merely a stepping stone that is unfortunate but essential to the development of a successful government. Then why must Russia endure capitalism? Why not skip straight to communism? It is for this reason, A does not equal C meaning that each step in the process is essential to getting the end result.…
Three examples of Soviet composers and musicians who made a lasting impact in the world of music included Sergei Prokofiev, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Mstislav \"Slava\" Rostropovich. These artists helped introduce the music of high culture to the Soviet masses and sometimes became internationally recognized. Musicians were called on to compose music that could be understood by the masses and uplift the Soviet people. Decent was often quashed and artists were expected to produce works that glorified the Communist Revolution and the new lives of the new Soviet masses, often while criticizing the capitalistic West. Censorship was strenuous, but the Soviet…

The fall of the Provisional government and the Bolshevik Revolution sparked many changes for Russia in 1917. It changed Russia for always. The economic system changed from a capitalist system to a socialist economy, peasants were granted the land that they already took in the February/March revolution and it ended the war and made peace in Russia. The lead up to the revolution can be traced back as far as March during the February/March revolution of 1917.…
Watching the duck and cover makes one think, would hiding under a desk or jacket against a wall really save someone. Seeing this makes one think if living during the time of a nuclear war would be desirable, not that one has the choice but it would have to be a thought. According to this duck and cover video, a nuclear bomb warning can happen at any time and one would find somewhere that was considered safe and a good distance from windows to duck and cover. If one saw a bright flash then they were to duck underneath any clothing available and against any type of structure as soon as they possibly could to protect themselves. This era had to be extremely stressful, especially for the young children this video was being shown too. This video had to wreak havoc on a child’s subconscious.…
After watching the 1951 movie called Duck and Cover; I want to share my thoughts on how it would be to experience a nuclear war or even a terrorist threat. In the movie the people had to be aware of the nuclear war just like we have to be aware of bad weather such as a tornado, volcano, earthquake, or a severe thunderstorm. The nuclear war reminds me of those two because they can both be damaging and sometimes deadly but you have to take the proper precautions such as duck and cover it will make sure that you and your family and others are safe and sound. I know for a fact if had to be involved in the nuclear war or even a terrorist threat that I would be scared out of my mind but also while being scared I will also be thinking to myself “I hope everything they taught us coming up in school about safety when it comes to bad weather and avoiding the terrorist has paid off so that I can be safe as well as others” because if not the outcome will not be good. The thought of knowing that something bad such as a nuclear war is coming but not knowing when it will occur is scary and that is how I would feel about the nuclear war and the terrorist threat because I would be on alert or watching what is happening around me more which would make me paranoid. As I think of a nuclear war or a terrorist threat; I believe that everyone will take the proper safety measures to save their lives because they are both a threat to everyone. This movie reminds of the video’s the fire department used to show in school and it would teach us to stop, drop, and roll. This movie teaches us to duck and cover as well to protect ourselves.…
After the ending of World War II l, the United States and the Soviet Union rejoiced. The worst war in human history was over. However, the peace did not last. The United States and Soviet Union had many ideological differences. The Soviet Union was the birthplace of communism and a huge proponent of it. Communism and capitalism are directly opposites. This caused tension between the countries which eventually led to the culmination of the Cold War. It was an obvious fact that the Soviet Union wanted to expand the size of its empire. The United States’ efforts to oppose this expansion were known as containment. The United States was able to contain communism by aiding West Berlin, intervening in the Korean War, and solving the Cuban Missile…
Yes I believe The Soviet Union was an experimentation which crashed soon after its beginning. One of the leaders, Stalin, was crazy man. After his wife died in, he became truly demonic person. Lenin was willing to kill large numbers of people, but Stalin seemed to enjoy it. The Soviet Union was not communism; it was Stalin's regime of terror. This is the main problem of the communist model. because there is only one power structure is easy to grab total control. To get an idea of how it all went wrong, Orwell's well thought Animal Farm idea, showed how weak communism is to dictators. Sadly it’s true, because they aren’t ready yet to truly work together as one…
