The Renaissance was one of the first times in history when people began to lose faith in God and focus more on people themselves and subjects like science, language, and arts. During the period before the Renaissance, also known as the Middle Ages, people had full faith in the church and god, but when people began to study more subjects about things like math and science, they began to find problems in the things that the church taught, causing them to lose faith. As these new discoveries point out, the Renaissance was a groundbreaking time for people then and now.…

Last summer, I endeavored a life changing experience. American Legion Buckeye Boys State is a leadership program. It is the best Boys State program in the nation. On top of this, it is among the top programs for leadership, growth, and is a meeting of the greatest minds of Ohio, and by proxy, of the nation. But it’s so much more than that. From Day One, the minute you step off the bus, it instantly becomes an incredible experience. Everyone, people who have never even met before, are shaking everyone else’s hands, introducing themselves, and campaigning for positions before anyone has even dropped their luggage off. It was breathtaking, truly, and it made me realize that I too had to step up. Naturally, I did just that. I started meeting people,…

During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…

During the Renaissance, scholars became more interested in the humanistic features of society, and humanistic educators based their teaching models on Greek and Latin classics. Renaissance education was One apparent purpose of a Renaissance education was to praise the value of useful education, through the teaching of the classics, mainly Greek literature that was written by Greek philosophers, mathematicians and other important figures. Some criticised the Renaissance education, however, because they felt as if it was absurd, as it didn’t teach true values of learning, and didn’t teach one how to behave, but rather how to dictate Latin. Despite these criticisms, other humanists believed Renaissance learning brought great profits, higher positions, and more honors later in life, and was successful in the task of teaching young people to fear god, have good virtue, and to be disciplined.…

This award from the KPMG Future Leaders Program will help me achieve my goals not only by supplying me with financial assistance to pay for college but also by allowing me to interact with strong, success women who have experience and insight into a male-driven field. It is seldom that a young woman like myself has the opportunity to further their knowledge of business and communications, and gets to learn that information from strong female leaders. My goals and aspirations stretch far beyond my current skills, and I hope that an award from the KPMG Future Leaders Program will allow me to grow the skills I need to continue on to be a leader to those around me. Going into my freshman year of college with a mentor counseling and teaching me the skill sets required to succeed in my field and to prosper at NYU next year, would be an extraordinary privilege and honor. Woman have always been major contributors to society, despite being shoved down and oppressed on too many occasions and in too many ways. My family was affected by the Louisiana Flooding, so this scholarship would be a relief to my family. That is because the flood has resulted in economic hardships which have made the prospect of attending university even harder than it would be under normal circumstances. Additional to the economic consequences of the flood, it also has simply made the process harder since the college process had to be somewhat put on the back burner while taking care of other matters. In these regards, the scholarship would have a significant impact on my ability to attend university. Obviously there is the fact that it eases the economic situations since it lowers the financial strain of attendance. That is a big deal due to the financial situation that my…

On Wednesday, January 18th, I was introduced to my On-Campus Leadership facilitators Marylyn Silverstein and Michael Hargrove. Marylyn introduced herself to the class as a living coordinator in the Jardine complex. She went over what her routinely tasks consist of, what responsibilities she has, and what daily work she must keep up with as a living coordinator. Although, after she got through all the formalities, Marylyn began to feel more relaxed and talk more about her personal life. For one, Marylyn adores cats. She has a passion for traveling and indulging in new cultures and traditions. Marylyn loves her job as a living coordinator because she can meet different people with a diverse set of backgrounds.
