The Railroad System In The Late 1850-1860
In the late 1850's-1860s there was a great breakthrough in the mode of transportation with the development of railroad systems. Around this era the US railroad system began to reach approximately 30,000 miles of railroad tracks. This was a great breakthrough on many levels.

It broke through on an economic level as it allowed industries to form and transport greater quantities of product than ever before. It also allowed transportation from on territory to another like never before. These early railroads were not very safe or efficient. They were very dangerous, the brakes were not strong, and the engines started fires until coal engines appeared.
The new railroads profoundly affected farm owners in both good and bad ways. In some good ways
