The Psychology Of Eating Animals Analysis
The research article The Psychology of Eating Animals is about how psychologists examined the psychology of why people eat animals. According to Loughnan, Bastian, and Haslam, the characteristics of the consumers of animals (people), the animal that is being consumed, and the eating (behavior) needed to be studied in depth. From the researchers in this article, the studying of moral behaviors when faced with everyday moral situations can expose our personality characteristics, cognitions, and emotions. This can explain why we do what we do, how we feel about the things we do, and what we believe is right or wrong. The problem within animal harm and protection is an issue for our society today. Meat eaters usually do not care about the wellbeing of animals for their own social status and tend to accept the inequality of animals. People view animals as something less than humans and do not value the greater mind animals have. They separate animals from humans and diminish their morality or mental capabilities so that they feel better about eating animals. This controversial case study topic can be studied more in depth with the main focus being the morality of humans. Cognitive and emotional processes are a big part of determining what the causes of eating meat really are. Psychologists are looking deeper into the dimensions of this issue and want to discover more about our minds, as well as animals that are being consumed every day. Humans not eating animals provides an adaptive evolutionary advantage because there would be a more broad population of those species than there would be if they were consumed daily by humans. The improvement of mental and psychological traits would occur over time in these animals if they were preserved and not eaten. These animals would be able to adapt to and survive in their environment and be able to produce offspring so their species would be able to survive longer. Not eating animals facilitates the adaptation of a human by humans learning to eat other things, like vegetables and greens, so that they are able to preserve the lives of many animals. The eating of animals by humans on the other hand, provide an adaptive evolutionary disadvantage because these animals could become extinct and would not be able to survive. The eating of animals impairs the adaptation of a human by them consuming a majority of meat, which inhibits them to try new things like greens and vegetables. They will also not be able to satisfy their taste for meat if they create the extinction of these animals by consuming a vast majority of them over a period of
