During my research on the surveillance cameras used by local police departments, IBM has discovered a way for artificial intelligence which enables computers to recognize a crime in progress and refer the video feed to a human colleague for handling. This system will first replace mobile officers for traffic enforcement; eventually they will be capable of keeping watch for almost any crime or any known criminal. At the same time, police officers must track the use of new technologies for fighting criminal organizations. The Internet has made it possible for a variety of financial crimes, global operations by close-knit gangs that police agencies are not equipped to meet.…

While reading the article, "After Boston: Pros and Cons of Surveillance Cameras", some eery similarities were made in correlation to George Orwell's novel, 1984. Today, technology is rapidly advancing, and unfortunately, due to recent events this advancement has been pushed in the wrong direction. The article best clarifies how advanced reconnaissance systems have been implemented in numerous urban communities such as London and New York. Like in the novel, 1984, it is a terrifying thought that someone could be watching another person at all times and actions could be taken based on the geometries of their face. As technology progresses and the government takes a larger approach towards surveillance a 1984 like dystopian future is a certain possibility.…
Should police officers wear body cameras? A 2013 University of Cambridge study found that when officers wear body cameras, both police and respondents are less likely to use violence. This study indicated a drop in the use of force by more than fifty percent. Body cameras will make the streets safer for both officers and the general public. Continuously wearing the camera will hold the officer accountable for his/her behavior. Also, body cameras can prevent cases like the Ferguson and Baltimore case, where the public was not for sure what had happened. In saying this, police officers should be made to wear body cameras.…

The advantages of stun guns and patrol car video surveillance are a critical tool in law enforcement. Officers are given the option of Tasers, which are extremely effective when pursuing an offender that might have had the upper hand to fight for a long time, resulting in the officer gaining injuries. Currently, patrol car video is a necessity as video records will enhance an officer 's credibility, corroborate identities, and statement issues, and can be used as evidence in court. However, critical to law enforcement; stun guns should be used as a last resort. Let us examine some of the issues that contain some validity to arguments for the continue use of these tools within law enforcement.…

One way of eliminating some of this from society is having police officers wear manually activated cameras on their bodies to record any interactions with civilians. Body cameras are becoming more and more prevalent with law enforcement agencies for many reasons. The biggest pros to having body cameras on law enforcement personnel is the reduction in unethical behavior while dealing with the general public, quickly determine baseless complaints against law enforcement personnel, and assault against law enforcement by the person or persons they are interacting with (Freund, 2015). Having body cameras can also be useful in gathering video and audio evidence while at a scene that will help in the conviction or acquittal of a crime. My department currently does not have body cameras, but when I worked patrol, reviewing my in car camera after an arrest helped me to see or reminded me of something that helped…
