The Pros and Cons of New Year's Resolutions
Katelyn DeFriese

1/7/15

Aotw week of 1/5/15 “Happy New Year” I think resolutions are a good thing to start doing, at least if you are someone who wants to accomplish goals you never even considered. Challenge yourself. Set and Achieve those goals you set. It will give you a great boost of confidence when starting the new year. Start with something a little easy, don’t set the bar too high.
Each year that you achieve your resolution, make a new one. Every time make it a little harder. Just don’t make a resolution that you know you can’t achieve before the new year. It would be sad if you stressed out the night of new years eve freaking out how you are going to be able to achieve your goal. Something like that isn’t worth putting in your way, you nor your time is worth the stress. Besides, who wants to go into the new year feeling depressed? Not fun right? An example of one of these ambiguous goals would be winning the lottery, because its impossible right? If you know it’s impossible, then don’t pretend that you have a chance of accomplishing it by the new year. Set goals like losing weight, not like 200 pounds, but maybe set a goal that you know u can accomplish.
And if u do make that goal before the new year, keep going on from there. Don’t stop, keep going. Surprise yourself, you might lose twice as much weight than you suspected. What are you waiting for? Get the new year started off right!

My short term goal was to attend the gym at least once or twice a week. My long term goal was to consistently go to the gym more times a week. Sadly, I did not reach either goal. To this day, I have yet to step a foot in the gym. There were days where I told myself that I would wake up early the next day to go to the gym or go for a run, but I never seemed to wake up. As the quarter went on, attending the gym seemed more and more impossible as my workload increased. Even though I did not go to the gym this quarter, I still hope and have goals for attending the gym next quarter.…

Another goal I plan to add to my weekly routine is cardio! I am horrible about doing cardio and I have never been much of a runner. My goal will be to implement 30 minutes of cardio 3 days a week to start. If everything goes well, I will add another day. I will either do stairs or cycling to complete this goal. This has long been something I have needed to do, so this “project” should help give me that extra push.…

In English, we were giving the assignment to record our 2018 New Year’s Resolutions. In receiving the assignment, it peak my curiosity on the coming about of these goals. Even though we think about New Year’s Resolutions being a current object of our modern society, the origin of these resolutions can be dated back to the time Babylonians. Although it started as a tradition as a way for the Babylonians to pay off their debts and return borrowed objects to the God’s, each goal has its own meaning to each individual, thus changing along with the times and morphing into what we are familiar with today. Eventually, this tradition made its way to America, and became popular after The Great Depression, and still continuing to be celebrated each coming…
