The Problems in the Formal Education System
It is not exaggerating to say that people without education just like flowers without sunshine and jaw crusher without oil. It is education that converts a raw person into a socialized adult. By receiving education, one learns how to read, how to write and how to calculate which are all the basic skill for surviving in the contemporary society. Furthermore, a person is allowed sufficient opportunities for healthy interaction with peers and so that he is likely to learn to negotiate, cooperate, and assert himself in a respectful manner. It is obviously that education takes a vital part in ones life so that no one can ignore its influence.
Admittedly, there exist many aspects in formal education system that needs reforming. The most severe problem is that educators put too much emphasis on accomplishments and scores so that students prefer to study on a blindly way----that is studying without subjective thinking. Students used to be instilled knowledge and try their best to recite the knowledge. Personal interests have been ignored and specialized education seems to be a kind of luxuries. In this way, the capability of critical thinking and creativity can not be trained while the ability of reciting and transcribing has been adopted, let alone the interconnection of different curriculum. Do we really need millions of robots which can recite and transcribe?
Consider the definition of ‘education”, we may find the way to prove the existing education system.. The target of education, as far as we know., is to both concentrating on the development of one’s academic qualities and the adoption of one’s emotional qualities .According to Naslow’s theory of human needs, people have several basic needs, including the needs for self-actualization, accomplishments, growth and creativity, esteem recognition ,and status.
