“The power of one is above all things the power to believe in yourself” (99) says Bryce Courtenay, the author of The Power of One. Because such courage is asserted within this quote, one may better understand the significance of confidence and assurance in one’s self to stand up to those in a higher class. Moreover, one may learn many different values and life lessons such as creating friendships, being the underdog, and achieving the best for society by understanding character change, conflict between characters, and different symbols and motifs throughout such as the full moon representing death. Above all, a major theme in The Power of One is that one’s strength to stand up against superiors with what they believe can benefit anyone else who is not able to do the same.…

In ancient Rome, in the peak of development of the empire when faced against great perils, one man would be granted with all the power. They will be named Julius Caesar, the head of the republic. But there was a time in which Gaius Julius Caesar rejected to give up his power and became a dreadful tyrant. The history of mankind is full of examples of man being corrupted by the taste of power. The story of the Caesar is but one of the vast myriad of examples that history can give of the corruption power can create on people. The problem with power is that it being the ability to have control (control over people, control over goods, control over minds, control over ideas and so forth) it may corrupt someone. This control allows people to manipulate reality around them. There are investigations that indicate that there are individuals who utilize their mastery on discourse, their given power, to achieve their own ends. In order to determine why and how does power corrupts leaders I am going to write about the main possible reasons that lead them to be corrupt, analyzing both sides and giving arguments to support both. In the particular case of power and corruption, the answer is complex, but fairly clear.…

When reading through Galatians and Romans I was inspired with the idea that none of us really NEEDED a divine marble jar to receive salvation. And what charged me so much is all the people I have encountered in life who think that way. Be it the atheist who feels that they are a good person who does good things so they don’t need a relationship with God or the self-righteous religious fanatic who condemns everyone else who doesn’t follow the letter of the law and thinks we are all going to hell. Paul states it very clear to the people he was speaking to, that one can only be justified by God’s grace, which is received by faith and works (the marbles) were not required. (Romans 3:28, 5:1)…

Peekay thinks the Lord is a shithead. We can’t blame him. His born again Christian mother has just told him that his wet nurse turned nanny called Nanny will no longer be associated with their family. Nanny would not convert to Christianity resulting in his mother’s dismissal of her service. We learn that Nanny has gone back to “Zululand”—an improper and slightly derogatory term for the Zulu Empire—and will not be returning to care for Peekay. We can assume his mother believes she can care for him by herself despite the (obvious) reasons she cannot. On the list being her current state of mind (bible thumping mania), and her past state of mind (nervous breakdown central). Nanny is the biggest loss, but not the only permanent loss to be accounted for.…

Hewlett-Packard is trying to keep an edge against its competition by having extraordinary customer service. HP can better reach one of its target markets targeting college students by focusing on the parents who buy their college children printers. Three changes to HP printers are needed to better serve this niche and maintain Hewlett-Packard’s competitive edge against competitors such as Canon. The first is to make the ink more affordable, the second is to eliminate unneeded features from the printers, and the third is to make it easier for people to compare HP printers to other models properly.…

In the movie, The Power of One, Botha, an Afrikaner, symbolizes the racial hatred and ignorance in Africa. Botha, unknown and foreign to other cultures and races, abuses P.K. for being the only English boy in a school of Afrikaners. The only way he knows how to cope with others different to himself is to abuse and to humiliate. He blames his own faults on those who have less authority. Botha is a symbol for all those in Africa who don’t care for anyone but their own race.…

The main theme of the story would be transformation; however, it does take some time throughout the story to see where the transformation has taken place. Due to transformation occurring in many forms,it can be hard to recognize the exact moment…
