The Positive Impacts of Philippines Becoming an English-Speaking Country
The fast paced globalization tremendously encouraged the Filipinos to improve the English speaking campaign in schools and workplaces. Being good and competent in speaking English can give a great contribution for a better economy. Especially now that Philippines has increased its efforts to encourage foreign investors in the country, there will be greater demand for English speaking workforce. In this paper, I will be discussing the positive impacts that English language has contributed to Philippines. In Philippines, English language has been used and taught in schools, workplaces and home. Filipinos are known to be fluent and effective English speakers.Early exposure with the English language is also a good head start for the children, if their parents and caregivers would speak and teach English to them, they can have an early preparation for school. It is good that schools are very strict with the implementation of English language as medium of teaching subjects. There are debates about the language that must be used to teach subjects in schools, imagine teaching Science and Technology in the Filipino? Isn’t it hard for the student to understand and absorb the lesson in that way? In this way, English language should be taught in the appropriate subjects for more effective delivery of the lessons. As English as taught to be the universal language, it is also good that schools try to enhance and practice the students more in the English language, in these ways they also prepare and expose the students in the battlefield of employment. The schools fully gear-up the students to answer competently in entrance examinations and job interviews. Having a country with huge percentage of call center companies with almost 400,000 Filipino employed in the industry, it is not surprising that foreigners would invest in the country because they view how good and competent in the English language Filipinos are.
