The Portrayal Of Satan In The Bible And Supernatural
From books, to film, to television shows the characters of the Bible have found their way into modern media. While some are portrayed accurately, others are almost hidden by interpretation. Nonetheless, the characters teach important lessons that may not be as evident if only taught through the Bible. Satan, the enemy of all that is good is a hard role to portray, play and This essay will compare the character of Satan in the Bible to that of the television show Supernatural and how this representation changes the Christian view on Satan.
The Bible though the main source of information on the Devil does not have a clear description of Satan. What the Bible does say is how exactly Satan came to be who Christians know him as a fallen angel. Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28;12-19 inform the reader that Lucifer was once a beautiful, powerful angel. After some time, Lucifer decided that he wanted to take the place of God. It was his sin of pride that caused him to be cast out of heaven as described in Ezekiel 28 verses 16 through 17:

Out of the mountain of God;
And I destroyed you, O covering cherub,
From the midst of the fiery stones.
Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;

While some may take the show’s portrayal of Crowley as Satan to be sarcastic and irreverent, the portrayal made Christians ask themselves what they really knew about the character of Satan. The Bible does not contain the whole picture and yet, television shows do not answer all of the viewer's questions either. Though the picture may never be one hundred percent clear it is certain that whoever Satan may appear as he is not someone to be trusted. Even if looks are appealing, it cannot be forgotten what true character of Satan is
