Applebroog’s art style is full of variety as she makes art in many different forms. These forms include painting, drawing, and sculpting. Her work tends to center around feminism, gender politics, and sexuality. I personally feel that the themes of her artwork, while inspired by feminism, may also stem somehow from her depression, as she was hospitalized for depression during the time she had been drawing close up sketches of her own genitalia.…

The cartoon, with what seems to be a caterer holding a platter with a cranium, or skull on it, is handing the lovely gift to a woman. The scenery is outlandish and ornamental. It is a timeless image of a young girl playing dress up in a young woman’s dress. She is standing in the center of the frame on what appears to be a large patio after what appears to have been a thunderstorm or a summer rain. With her right hand she holds the back of the dress in place so it stays around her tiny waist. Looking down at the dress as she spreads the dress out and around to her left with her left hand in a twirling motion. The movement can be seen by the blurred effects created by the perfect choice of shutter speed. Its just enough to slow the movement of the dress but not so much that it comprises the clarity of the rest of the subject. Certain parts of the image appear to be slightly over exposed with an abundance of light reflecting off the background and illuminating the white areas of the dress. This makes the subject really stand out. The contrast of the black lacey material against the white translucent materials also is very appealing to the eye. The image seems to give you a glimpse back in time to the memory or a dream which reminds you of innocence, imagination, and carefree world of a young…

The woman is wearing a white robe and is draped in a blue material. The color blue is also found in the sky and in the flowers that one of the children is extending to the woman. Pink is very prominent in the painting. A piece of the figure’s clothing is pink and the clouds are pink. The winged children have a pink hue as well. The color white is significant because the bird above the woman is white. The light in this painting appears to be radiating from the woman, further deeming her importance. This piece is in the limited colors of black, white, and red. The image itself is in the right top corner with a red skinny rectangle in white bold letters “Super Rich, Ultra Gorgeous” and in the left bottom corner in the same style it says “Extra Skinny, forever Young.” An attractive young woman is depicted summered in blocky ice water. The women wear a mask over her face, but it still purposely exposes her forehead through the bridge of the nose, with her lips popping out through a cutout. The style of the woman’s image resembles the 1950s. The females eyes in the photo serve as a focal point, however, her implied gaze leads upward. This allows the viewer to be curious where the implied line is vanishing. The work is clean and consists of representational art traditions. Kruger does not take any wild liberty with the editing, she simply adds her…

The image that appears twelve times in the painting is the Statue of Liberty facing forward from her legs up. One can see most of the statue, including the torch, and the horizon behind her. The painting is composed mostly of a cool blue. In addition to the blue, a vibrant red is included, creating a contrast in the painting. Strangely enough, the painting is not centered, but rather aligned to the right, leaving a lot of unused space on the left. The repetition of the statue forms a harmony of sorts, but the individual coloring creates a small separation.…
