The Person Who Influenced in My life. Everybody has someone that influenced them in their lives. To me, the one that had an big impact in my life was Jade. Jade was my friend in high school, she was the one who help me to overcome when I was a bad student. Jade showed me the way how to study and to be successful in high school. She was my best friend and my best teacher. When I was a teenager, I didn’t care about school and my future. I went to school just to sleep and have fun with another friends. I never finished my homework before going to school. Then, I met Jade. Jade was an Asian girl, and she was very good at Math. One day, she asked me why I didn’t finish the homework before I went to school. I told her that I was not good at Math, and I needed somebody to help me. After that, she asked the teacher to let her become my tutor. She showed me everything she knew and then I was the best student in my Math class. After being successful in Math class, Jade still helped me. She said I needed to get good grades in other subjects for higher GPA. Therefore, I studied hard in every classes and she would help me whenever I need her. At the end of that year, I got all A’s for every class I had taken, and again Jade did help me to be successful in high school. Now I am going to a community college, and I’m really grateful that Jade helped me a lot when I was in high school. Although, we are not in the same school right now, but we still hang out together sometimes and talk on the phone when we are free. To me, Jade is my best friend and best teacher in my life.

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

Because of them, I am able to face failures through second chances and that has made all the difference for me in…

Me being the impatient but helpful person I am I said “yeah sure”. So I moved this little box that any kid in my class could have easily moved outside of her moving it herself. She stopped what she was doing at her cabinet and she showed me my final exam grade and it said 89% B+. A surprised me began smiling excited that I would pass the class with almost a B average for the year. She looked at me and said “T, you are smart. You have given me 40% effort and still somehow you still have managed to pass my class, I struggle dealing with students who are incapable but try hard every single day and you don't show me any effort and still manage to do have a decent grade…” “Why are you afraid? You are easily one of the most gifted students I have encountered and you show no effort?”. I just sat there lost and confused and wondered how she knew and wonder why I had wasted all this time not living up to my full potential, I had let my fear of failure keep me from being the best student I could be. I now look at it and regret the decisions I made in the past. Everyday i have learned to allow myself have higher expectations than I have before. There was a lesson in what my teacher said to me and I will…

As a child, I had always been very quiet and very reserved. My mom always said that I barely cried and was always particularly calm. When I was in the 3rd grade, I often struggled in math class and was too shy to ever ask for help. I was given news that I was to attend summer school and that it would determine if I would move on to the 4th grade. In summer school, I also struggled and even though I knew I wasn’t understanding the concepts I remained silent. I received a call saying that I had failed and was at risk of repeating the grade. Luckily for me, my mother and counselor advocated on my behalf and I was given a second chance. Now you may be wondering so what? She first begins by recalling the goals she once had throughout high school and what measures she took to try and reach them. Her biggest goal in high school starting from freshman year was to obtain a 4.0 GPA and letter in academics. She studied awfully hard and really focused on her academics to attempt to achieve her goal. Unfortunately she did not reach this goal, “I got very close, having all A’s and one B my sophomore year,” she says disappointedly. However, it seems that she has made her way passed it as she says, “It was kind of devastating if I’m honest, but I mean what can I do now, I’ve moved on.” This then lead to a description of how the triumphs and trials she encountered helped her to be more prepared to face the world after high school. She describes high school as “just another four years of my life,” and that what took place then doesn’t really affect her regularly today. “High school showed me that if life brings you down, you will get back up, move on, and get through it; there is always a new tomorrow.”…

Shortly after Claas' death, one of my classmates adopted me in to his circle of friends and I became part of a group after years of sticking to a single friend. In order to fill the void that Claas had left behind, I spent most of my effort on maintaining my social life with little regard for my grades. Halfway through my junior year, I realized that I was unlikely to be admitted to a good university and would have to attend the local community college. It was then that I comprehended that I needed to make a big change in order to fix my life, which meant leaving behind the negative environment of my old high school and moving to a private high school to repeat my junior year and finish high school.…

After elementary school, I went to Carr Intermediate. Unlike most incoming 6th graders, I was very excited going to middle school. I still remember, before walking into the gates of Carr I went to school walking with my friend Jesus Morales because he is my neighbor. I told him “oh man middle school let’s do this!!”, he wasn’t as excited as me but we had each others back so he just went along with it. 6th grade was a good year but, 7th grade I fell behind with my grades. It wasn’t that I didn’t care but I just started going through some changes and I thought the people around me were more important than my school. One main reason for my bad grades was GIRLS! I started going through those changes…
