The descriptive study assessed the perceived impact of cartoon TV shows on the behavior and values of selected LCCM elementary students. The main sources of data came primarily from the responses of a total of fifty (50) elementary students of LCCM who were selected through non-probability sampling by the researchers. Findings from the study revealed that cartoon TV shows have impact and changes on the behavior and values of the students. These findings imply that children upon watching cartoon TV shows aired on the television, receives information that may greatly affect their cognitive comprehension, values integration and behavioral application in a positive or negative manner. The study concludes that in a great extent, children in the primary level of education are unaware of the impacts of cartoon TV shows.

The cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants is in hot water from a study suggesting that watching just nine minutes of that program can cause short-term attention and learning problems in 4-year-olds.The problems were seen in a study of 60 children randomly assigned to either watch SpongeBob, or the slower-paced PBS cartoon Caillou or assigned to draw pictures. Immediately after these nine-minute assignments, the kids took mental function tests; those who had watched SpongeBob did measurably worse than the others. Previous research has linked TV-watching with long-term attention problems in children, but the new study suggests more immediate problems can occur after very little exposure — results that parents of young kids should be alert to, the study authors said. Kids' cartoon shows typically feature about 22 minutes of action, so watching a full program "could be more detrimental," the researchers speculated, But they said more evidence is needed to confirm that. The results should be interpreted cautiously because of the study's small size, but the data seem robust and bolster the idea that media exposure is a public health issue, said Dimitri Christakis. He is a child development specialist at Seattle Children's Hospital who wrote an editorial accompanying the study published online Monday in the journal Pediatrics. Christakis said parents need to realize that fast-paced programming may not be appropriate for very young children. "What kids watch matters, it's not just how much they watch," he said. University of Virginia psychology professor Angeline Lillard, the lead author, said Nickelodeon's SpongeBob shouldn't be singled out. She found similar problems in kids who watched other fast-paced cartoon programming. She said parents should realize that young children are compromised in their ability to learn and use self-control immediately after watching such shows. "I wouldn't advise watching such shows on the way to school or any time they're expected to pay…

Children have become much more interested in cartoons over many years and it has become a primary action to some lives. By the age of two or three children become enthusiastic viewers. This has become a problem because too many children are watching too much television and the shows that they are watching have become violent and addictive. Examples of such cartoons consist of pokemon, transformers, digimon, beyblade and many other. This shows consist of many fighting scenes which don’t leave a very prolific reflection on the young ones. Mental and Psychological Effects on Children who watch cartoons from the time children start school to the time that they graduate they are averaged to spend around 13,000 hours in school. Three major effects have been proven by psychological research caused by children seeing violence on television are that the child may become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others; children who watch violence do not fear violence nor are they bothered by violence in general and the children are more likely to become aggressive or use harmful actions towards others. These are some outcomes of such addiction to cartoon viewings.…

This article, appearing in a British online newspaper in 2009, explains the conclusions of a study performed at Iowa State University regarding children’s behavior after watching cartoons on television. When looking back at my childhood, I would say that I watched around two to three hours of cartoon daily and at times up to four hours, especially on the weekend. Yet, I haven’t once taken the time to wonder if there was an impact of cartoons on my growth or how much of an influence the cartoons that I watched had on my personal development. According to a report by Yvette Middleton, she discovered that children were exposed to an average of 20-25 violent acts per hour on Saturday morning cartoons (Middleton). In addition to violence, researchers discovered that traditional genders have been continuingly portrayed in cartoons (Thompson and Zerbinos). Moreover, children have a difficult time distinguishing what they see on television as fiction…

While the work does not have an exhaustive measure of resulting variables or work in attempting to record each violent act effectively with the given methods this study is one that has results that can be common for that of which this program offers. The findings that were shown does fit the presented information of Wilson et al (2002) which studied that there were about 14 incidents of violence in one hour program and 1 in every 4 minutes. The findings from this study also showed that if research was to average out the amount of total recorded incidents to the amount of episodes studied it would be about 6 which were analyzed. So this does give a larger meaning that cartoon programs have high amounts of violent programs in their shows though this is often in the use of fictional violence in which characters are never seriously injured or hurt which can leave the social effects of real life violence needing to be continued to analyzed with aggression and that context that children understand the perceived shows are fictional. This is something that no research has found if the perception of these shows have any effect on children’s behaviors with the high exposures of violence and what is reality or…

Therefore, the media should reduce the amount of violence that is in children television shows. Rethinking the plots and making shows more educational but fun at the same would leave a more positive affect on the young children watching. The violent media displayed to kids can influence the decisions they make in everyday life. According to the American Psychological Association, “Violent programs on television lead to aggressive behavior by children teens who watch these programs”(APA,249). In other words, the American Psychological Association believes that these violent programs have a high influence on children and young teens. These aggressive behaviors exhibited by young children can cause bodily harm and also emotional harm for children. Once a child develops a pattern of aggressive behavior caused by TV Violence, it is a very process to reverse or get rid of this…

With the recent increase in violent crimes committed by children, adults have been looking for answers to what causes children to commit these acts. Researchers have performed formal studies, and other approaches have been taken to answer the question. Their ideas and perceptions have strayed far and wide, looking for a suitable answer; one such answer of the many they have uncovered is television, but especially television geared towards children: cartoons and animation. In recent years, animation has taken a more openly violent twist during the same time period that the unique and varied forms of Japanese animation have come to America; both have raised many parents' eyebrows as articles and media coverage portray both, but especially Japanese animation, in a harsh and unfair light, depicting all series and movies as violent and only fit for mature audiences. The adults' perception of animation varies greatly from the children's perception, as many factors, such as media depictions, personal opinions, and even the standards of cultures, come into play on the decision of what is suitable for younger viewers.…

The general population sometimes sees children television programs as low budget or cheesy productions. Compared to other programs on TV such as Lost, 24, Friends, or American Idol, children television shows cost only a fraction to produce. However, these programs prove to be the most influential TV content towards their targeted audience. Children’s programs can be both beneficial and detrimental depending on the content of the programs. In a study by B.J. Wilson and colleagues, it was found that most TV programs targeted towards children have acts of aggression that would later impact the child. Their study showed that “children exposed to much media violence often grow up to be aggressive and violent adults.” Although there are a good number of children TV shows that might be detrimental without realizing it, there are several shows that have been seen in studies to actually be beneficial. One of these show is The Magic School Bus.…

Every day for the few decades; children have been subjected to the harmful messages of advertisers on television. There is some discussion in the literary works over the years at which adolescent children can distinguish television broadcasts from programs, and when they can conjure up and want what they lay their eyes on and when they are able to figure out that the advertiser’s goal is to sell a manufactured product. Resolution of the dispute has been hindered by methodological difficulties and models which fail to fully apprehend and figure out children’s acknowledgments to advertisements. This research uses a book and ecologically accurate method of searching how toy advertising act on children by studying their demands sent to Santa Claus, monitoring game commercials and obtaining television viewing data. Eighty children aged from 5 to 7 years, who had set forth the messages to Father Christmas, were consulting with looking upon the extent and quality of their television viewing. Reports and related data were also analyzed for 16 nursery school kids, aged 4 to 5 years, using survey replies from their parents. Overall, kids who observed more commercial television were found to call for a larger number of things from Santa Claus. These kids also demanded more branded items than kids who watched less. Without Regard To, the children’s demands did not agree significantly with the most every now and then advertised game merchandise on television during the build up to Christmas. An accurate relationship was founded between watching television solely and number of demands.…

INtroDucTioN:Cartoons have been a staple of childhood development since the early 20th century. Two thirds of infants and toddlers watch an average of two hours of television a day, according to a recent study. While watching cartoons, a child's brain processes graphic images, educational information and violent acts. These brain-stimulating factors have both positive and negative effects on children's development. Cartoons are the most frequent and easily accessible source of entertainment which we provide to our children. With the vastness of media and extension of channels, it has become easier for children to watch their favorite cartoons on a single click and at the same time it has become more convenient for parents to provide children with this all-time favorite activity of theirs. Time which was previously spent by children in outdoor activities is now replaced, as now they can be found glued to the TV sets for long hours, peering at all sorts of cartoons, mostly without the supervision of elders who are completely unaware that this might have certain effects on their psychological development later on displayed in their behavior patterns.…
