The Outsiders Persuasive Essay: Why Ponyboy Should Be Put in Foster Care.

I think to be somewhat successful; you need a positive environment to focus on proper priorities. Taking Ponyboy out of Darry’s care and putting him in a foster home would be in his best interest. Being in a violent or unstable environment would only deter someone’s progress in helping themselves become the best they could be. Ponyboy is in what I believe, an unstable environment unfitting for a child. There is violence, drugs/alcohol, and bad influences around Ponyboy and it doesn’t seem to be doing him any good. Ponyboy seems like a smart boy who wants to learn and succeed, but having influences like Darry, Sodapop, and the rest of the greasers doesn’t do anything but make his chances at becoming something of himself any better. Both his brothers are drop outs and all his friends don’t seem to apply themselves well. Being around people who don’t want to apply or work hard in school may change Ponyboy’s ambitions. Even if Ponyboy stayed in school he would still be caught up in the greaser and Soc rivalry. Having all that violence would probably sidetrack him and get him into more and more trouble. In the book after Johnny died, Ponyboy said he was very clumsy and barely paid any attention in school. Having another fight like that could do the same thing to Ponyboy. Being violent towards Socs could bring fights into the schools and cause him to have to leave school. Another reason Ponyboy should be taken out of his brothers’ care is because he is only fourteen and his is smoking and drinking on a regular basis. Getting into drugs is not something someone his age needs to be doing. You never know if one day he will get really drunk with his friends and get himself in a big fight and end up hurting himself and others. Taking Ponyboy out of Darry and Sodapop’s care would be best for him in so many ways. A foster home would

As both the adult in Ponyboy’s household, and the ringleader of the Greasers, Darry is under a lot of pressure. Previously, he had every opportunity to go to college and make something of himself if his parents had not died and left him to take care of his two younger brothers. He quit school and went to work to keep the family together. Sometimes the pressure of having so much responsibility leads to tension between Darry and…

At the start of the book Pony sees Dallas as a bitter, tough guy , and he has good reason to think this because Dally had spent time in jail and was in a gang in New York that beat people up just to blow off steam. Now Johnny had always looked up to Dally like a big brother and a hero, but Pony doesn't start to look at him this was until he goes into the burning church to save the kids' lives (pg79 Hinton ). However the greatest change in Pony’s views in Dallas Is when he risks his life to save Ponyboy’s life and prolongs Johnny’s, after this Pony views Dally like Johnny viewed him as a gallant selfless hero. But the change in relationship between Dally doesn't last long as Dally has the police kill him not long after Johnny because of his injuries from the fire when this happened it made Dally feel like he lost a part of himself because he was so close with Johnny.…

Behind Dally’s rough exterior, Johnny saw his gallant and heroic side. Dally, on the other hand, represented the anger and hatred the Greasers had towards their archenemies, the Socs. With Johnny gone, the harmony that once existed had now disappeared. If Dally had not died shortly after Johnny, the gang would have lost sight of the dream Johnny had for them and followed Dally’s downward spiral. Ponyboy implied this when he narrated, “He (Dally) had quite a reputation….you had to respect him.” (11 Hinton) The Greasers most likely would follow in the footsteps of Dally and even channel Dally’s frustrations with the Socs, the world, and life in general. Moreover, this hatred would have driven the Greasers all to a life of crime and with the attitude of dying young. “You’d better wise up Pony….you get tough like me and you don’t get hurt.” (147 Hinton) as said by Dally. Ponyboy would have been the most influenced and would have never have grown up to become his own…

In the beginning of the story Dally and Ponyboy didn't get along the best. But throughout the story they became closer. Dally’s death happened right after he stole from the store. The cops showed up and circled around Dally under a street light. Dally soon pulled out a gun and acted like it was loaded but it really wasn't. How would the cops know that? They did not know that. After the cops told Dally to put the gun down multiple times and Dally still wouldn't do it so they shot him. Ponyboy took this really hard because him and Dally had gotten very close. Also dally had helped Ponyboy and Johnny out whenever they needed something. So I think that Ponyboy was really mad because he didn't stop it from happening. Also now Ponyboy is dealing with two deaths of his very good friends. “I knew he would be dead, because Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted” said Ponyboy (Hinton…

By joining this society now sees him as trash as violent and crude. Society has a common look for the Greasers such as the long slick back hair and certain attitudes which makes ponyboy feel more like he doesn't fit in because he knows he has certain views that do not match with those of the Greasers. He thinks the violence is unnecessary that they fight because the socs think they are superior to the Greasers he doesn't understand if he should keep fighting like they currently…

Ponyboy is very intelligent and is aware that education can lead to a better future for him. He is the only person in the gang that has a chance at being successful one day. Ponyboy resents fighting while the rest of the gang admires it. “Why do I fight? I thought, and couldn’t think of any real good reason for fighting except for self-defense.” -Ponyboy Curtis page Ponyboy prefers to resolve problems without having to use violence; he only fights when it’s necessary. Darry is already trying to protect Ponyboy from becoming like the rest of the Greasers, he understands that Ponyboy has a bright future and it can not be ruined by the environment he has grown up in(Being raised around people who like to fight and steal things from stores). Ponyboy is selfless unlike the rest of the gang. He rushed into the church to save the kids (knowing that he likely caused the fire) instead of running away to keep himself safe from the police. Ponyboy Curtis is the main character in ‘The Outsiders.’ A brilliant personality trait that Ponyboy has is loyalty which makes him a hero both in the physical deeds he does and also his attitude towards social division. One of the things that Ponyboy did physically that was courageous was running into the Church to save the children. He also stood up to the Socs at the park by saying to them that they were “White trash with Mustangs and madras.” His loyalty is displayed a few times throughout the book. Firstly, he sticks up for Johnny after he stabs Bob and he supports him all the way until he dies at the end. He also stands by the gang and fights with them in the rumble even though he was not feeling well. Ponyboy is a great person who sees that people should be treated the same and is courageous.…

Did you know foster care kids can . I think Ponyboy should go into the foster care system because the things he does on a daily basis are inappropriate for a kid his age. Ponyboy smokes two packs of cigarettes a day and is exposed to an unsafe, violent environment. Ponyboy should into the system because he would be in a safer environment. He would live a more stable life. Ponyboy is better off in the system because he can get a better education and live healthier lifestyle…

I thought for a long time and finally decided to put Pony boy in foster care because of all the bad things in his past. Such as his brother slapping him. His brother is only eighteen years old taking care of a fourteen year old.Not only taking care of a fourteen year old but also his brother soda pop. So Darry has a huge responsibility that he can not seem to control. He even leaves his under aged brother at home alone with no super vision. So his brother is slapped and not watched and probably feels alone since he is not even able to leave his home. When he is home he criticizes him calling him names like dumb or saying things like ¨You do not use your head. Those kinds of things can hurt a fourteen year old, emotionally.…
