The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton: Summary
The author of The Outsiders is S.E Hinton. Ponyboy is a sweet, caring 14 year old boy who is in a gang called The Greasers. He lives with his two brothers Sodapop and Darrel. The Greasers live on the East side and the Socs live on the West side. Johnny, Pony, Darry fight for something they believe in that brings purpose to their lives. Johnny had killed Bob in the park one night and Ponyboy was with him Ponyboy sticks with everyone no matter what he is very dependable., they were going to be in big trouble if we didn’t run away. They ran to Dally and he gave us money and told us where to stay. They found the abandoned church, days passed and when they were coming back to the church after Dally checked up on us, it was in flames. Pony asked someone “What happened?” Both ran up to it and Johnny and Pony sprinted inside to save the children inside. Johnny was crushed by a beam trying to get out of the church. …show more content…
Randy had stopped Pony in the streets to tell him that the fighting was useless and didn’t want to fight in the Rumble because no matter what “Greasers will be Greasers”. Out of friendship Randy had visited Ponyboy which was sweet however he wasn’t feeling well, when he was in the hospital which introduced the topic of of him not wanting to be in any of the violence. Randy talks to Pony about he “Regrets ever being involved in any of the violence because of the impact of his father, he believes that he is disappointed in him”.     The book I read was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This book is about the rivalry between the two groups which are the Greasers VS. Soc’s. The main characters in this story are Ponyboy, Johnny, Dallas, Darry, Sodapop, and Two-bit. The Soc’s puts Ponyboy Curtis and his best friend Johnny in a bad and dangerous spot. One night at the movies, Ponyboy and Johnny fall in love with Sherri and Marcia after they got Dally, the toughest of the Greasers to stop attempting to get with the girls. Sherri and Marcia are from the snobbish and rich group, the Socs but that doesn’t bother Johnny and Ponyboy from liking them. That night, after the movies, they went to the park and when the Soc’s were beating up on Ponyboy, the small and scared Johnny gets up and stabs a member of the Soc’s. After the stabbing that Johnny did they run away to a church in Windrixville and supply food for a week with only one gun and some money. After staying there for a week the church catches on fire and kids are inside. Johnny and Ponyboy risk their lives to save the kids and unfortunately Johnny dies a little bit after. Then they rumble with the Soc’s and win! They did it for Johnny and that’s what determined them to win.…

Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door.” Throughout the book Ponyboy talks about how much Darry hates him, and how he likes Sodapop better. They all slick back their hair with grease, and that's where the name Greasers came from. Ponyboy Curtis is the main character in this story, and he has 2 brothers, one named Darry, and the other named Sodapop.
