The Old Gringo The Old Gringo is a fiction novel. It was written by a Latin American author. His name is Carlos Fuentes. This novel is based on a lot of war. It also displays sort of an adventure throughout the novel. It really paints the perfect picture of the Mexican Revolution, and is a great source to use to get more familiar with this topic. The Mexican Revolution took place in the early 1900s. It began in 1910 and it ended around 1920, a decade later. This fictional novel has many themes throughout the content of the book. The reader understands these themes after reading the experiences of the main characters in the novel, and the time period it takes place. Some of the most important and major themes were the relationship the United States and Mexico had, the challenge to find out about one’s true self, and also two men showing multiple ways they need a women in their life. Those are the main themes that are witnessed through the course of the book. The biggest question about this book is figuring out who the main character really is. Is he really Ambrose Bierce or is he just an ordinary “old gringo”? To answer that question I had to really read and understand the book.
