The Myers-Briggs Profile
The Myers-Briggs profile is based on the Neo-Freudian theorist Carl G Jung. Carl G Jung, Katharine C. Briggs, and Isabel Briggs Myers are the well know researchers of the sixteen personality types. Carl Jung was the first to develop the theory that we individuals each had a psychological type. He believed there were two types of functions human used in their lives, how we perceive things and how we make decisions. He believed within those two category types, there were two different ways of functioning. We could perceive information through our senses or our intuition. ISFJ’s are said to take a supportive role in communication, listening to tune into the needs of others. We tend to be sensitive and want to collaborate to support everyone involved. We IFSJ’s are very loyal to what we see first-hand, and will often share perspectives based on personal experience. In relationships, the ISFJ is generous, accommodating, and loyal. We are dedicated to the task of taking care of our loved ones, and take our family responsibilities seriously. ISFJ’s are always looking for ways to provide and to assist, and are attentive to the details of the people around us (Truity, 2017). With my fiancé and I having different personality types, sometimes I find difficulties in our relationship, but then again with our two different perspectives we can collaborate, and the outcome could be amazing. In my relationship, I’m the one who always has everything in order, whereas he’s more of a ‘go with the flow” type of person. This is where we have the most problems. According to Inamura (2018)” the theory so deceptively simple that a certain subset of people believes themselves to be experts on the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator after two weeks of study or less. They fail to understand how an adequate understanding of the theory is needed to administer the test and interpret the scores”. According to Flow Psychology Blog (2014) one weakness of the Myer-Briggs type indicator is the time it takes, most people like for things to be quick and easy, but the Myer-Briggs type indicator takes more time then people like to spend doing a personality type quiz. Another weakness is, it doesn’t provide definite answers. The personality test can give you a pretty good estimate of what type you are, but it isn’t your final verdict. Also, some people feel that they could be a hybrid of different personalities and treating them as just a member of the type indicated in a test isn’t fair to
