Life of the Monastery
During the Middle Ages, men thought tat the world was a wicked place and the Wrath of God was being shone through famine, storms, lightning, thunder, and sickness. To escape it they built a large building and called it a Monastery. The Monks that lived there wanted to serve God with their souls. Not long after this happened, there were monasteries in every Christian land. There was a monk named Benedict, he made a series of rules for his Monastery, soon most of the other Monasteries adapted his original rules. Monks normally wore coarse wool cloth, with a hood to cover their heads, and a cord around their waist for a girdle. A monk was not allowed to take everything for granted and nothing was theirs. The food, drinks, clothes were from the monastery. Everything that was sent to the monks from people they know is then sent to the abbot to better and help the monastery. The monks were to obey commands given to them from people their superior. if the command is very hard or even impossible to fulfill they must try and make an attempt. Monks were required to live on the simplest food. At the dinner table monks are asked to read out loud from a holy book so that they will not forget themselves at the dinner table. Monks enjoyed the life of living off of the monastery and its money, power, and property. However the more luxury you have the stricter the rules become to keep the monks humble. As the ages went by the rules got stricter, this was towards the end of the Middle Ages. By the time the Middle Ages ended most of the monasteries left with it. However, if a man wanted to become a monk he had to go through a trial. First, he had to become a novice for a year, live in a monastery, and follow strict rules. If they are still interested in becoming a monk still he takes three vows of Chastity, Poverty, and Obedience. Therefore, after those vows you cannot leave the monastery.
