The Monk Monologues
Life of the Monastery

During the Middle Ages, men thought tat the world was a wicked place and the Wrath of God was being shone through famine, storms, lightning, thunder, and sickness. To escape it they built a large building and called it a Monastery. The Monks that lived there wanted to serve God with their souls. Not long after this happened, there were monasteries in every Christian land. There was a monk named Benedict, he made a series of rules for his Monastery, soon most of the other Monasteries adapted his original rules. Monks normally wore coarse wool cloth, with a hood to cover their heads, and a cord around their waist for a girdle. The gowns of the Benedictines were normally black so they were called “black monks’’. Many years

A monk was not allowed to take everything for granted and nothing was theirs. The food, drinks, clothes were from the monastery. Everything that was sent to the monks from people they know is then sent to the abbot to better and help the monastery. The monks were to obey commands given to them from people their superior. if the command is very hard or even impossible to fulfill they must try and make an attempt. Monks were required to live on the simplest food. At the dinner table monks are asked to read out loud from a holy book so that they will not forget themselves at the dinner table. Monks enjoyed the life of living off of the monastery and its money, power, and property. However the more luxury you have the stricter the rules become to keep the monks humble. As the ages went by the rules got stricter, this was towards the end of the Middle Ages. By the time the Middle Ages ended most of the monasteries left with it. However, if a man wanted to become a monk he had to go through a trial. First, he had to become a novice for a year, live in a monastery, and follow strict rules. If they are still interested in becoming a monk still he takes three vows of Chastity, Poverty, and Obedience. Therefore, after those vows you cannot leave the monastery. Soon the monasteries became corrupt too. The monks thought that living in luxury was the was to serve god so they became

But monks serve a very important purpose, that make them happy. A monk accumulates goodness and wisdom in exchange for having kids and a wife (doc 3). With Buddhism, there are people that have children, and continue the circle of life, and there are people that collect knowledge to share with their people to keep society up to date per say. There is also a negative side to this. Since so many people have converted to becoming monks and nuns, who is doing the necessary work, like working the fields, or making clothes. According to (doc 6), monks and nuns are basically a bunch of freeloaders who don’t contribute to society. Tang Emperor Wu is angry about this because money is coming from HIS pocket to pay for these “freeloaders”. Documents 3 and 6, although opposite responses, both talk about how monks and nuns affect the Chinese…

As it is written in (Doc 11) the monasteries were once a source of much needed help in the northern part of England but with the in enactment of the Supremacy Act and the and dissolution of monasteries this quickly came to a end. as it is said in (Doc 5)the King was beseeched to restore the monasteries for without them many vagabonds beggars and hobos would die and many public bridges high walls and sea walls that were much needed by the common people would go into disrepair . Step by wicked step, my boots sank further and further into the thick, red-tinged land as if the devil himself were dragging my body straight into the depths of hell. The rhythmic squelching stabbed through my rubber soles, radiating pain throughout my soul as it seared everything in its path. Squelch, squelch, squish. My tempo was interrupted by those cursed boots refusing to budge from the stubborn terrain. As if taunting me, the earth unhooked my feet from the damned soil…

They believe they are imitating Christ in what they do. In their view: “When [Catholics] see monks, they think we don’t do anything for anybody, but when a person does a good thing, it affects everybody. It’s the Communion of Saints.” The Modern Day Hermits have the same understanding of solitude as we do but their practice of it is varied Because as mentioned, they dedicate their entire lives to it. We only dedicate varied lengths of time to this discipline. They have also stated that Protestants seem to understand “the hermitic life” better than most Catholics. They get a lot of Protestant visitors, the hermits mentioned: Protestants see it in the element of the praying Church. When people come they are evangelized by the place. We have a similar view with the Modern Hermit. It seems Catholics don’t hold solitude in such a high…

The bitter night Avah was killed the whole town was out celebrating. The Spring Festival was an annual affair and only the most isolated of persons would have not been there. It was a festival meticulously planned out by those intrigued in such matters and each detail was carried out to exact perfection. The Humphrey family would perform a skit each year at exactly six-thirty, the mayor would grace the audience with a well-planned speech at six-forty-five. At seven o’clock the potluck dessert would be brought out by the women and then once a half hour had passed, enough time for the people to converse with each other, the festival games would begin.…

I’m hopeless. I’m completely and utterly hopeless. I have nothing to look forward to at a school. At least on the farm I had friends and a family. I had a life… largely consisting of stealing from tourists that visit the vineyard. I need to find a way to turn this car around. That’s it! I’ll tell dad that I don’t want to go. He’ll respect my decision. But if he gets mad… shoot, last time he pulled out the belt. No, I better think of a slightly less painful idea. I can make up an excuse – No, that wouldn’t work. If only I wasn’t such a bad liar. In hindsight, if I were a better liar, I would have prevented many bad run-ins with the cops, and the worst run-ins that were near fatal, courtesy of dad. Yeah, he knows me in and out, too, so I can’t trick him. That would be suicide. I could call my friends… if I had a phone. Now I’ll never get to explain to them how I ended up in this mess. They’ll just remember me as the kid who became a goody two-shoes. They’ll never know that I won the contest for acceptance into a private school only because my Grandma wrote the application appeal. My family just doesn’t care that I don’t want to go to school. Why are they not giving me a fair say in the course of my life? They don’t know how good I am at sneaking and stealing. They don’t know how much money I could make if my friends and I took it to the next level. They just don’t understand what I’m trying to say because I’m not good with words. Maybe this school can help me, though. Maybe if I go sit in just the English and Literature class, I can fix this problem of mine. I’m already in the car, why stop now? Shoot, this car is a ’98 Corolla and is used for transporting a family of eight. Maybe this family needs a high school graduate. Maybe they’re actually depending on me. Man, if I just try a little to be a good student, I can make some honest money. Maybe my grandma just wanted to see someone become great. I have to this. I’ll have the best of both worlds…

The Medieval Church was popular in the Middle Ages. People’s entire lives revolved around it. The Middle Ages was a period in European history lasting from the 5th century to the 15th century. The Catholic Church played a more significant role in that period of time, than modern times. In medieval times, the Church dominated everybody's life. All medieval people, from village peasants to towns people, believed that God, Heaven, and Hell existed. From the very earliest of ages, the people were taught that the only way they could get to Heaven was if the Roman Catholic Church let them. The Church was a necessity for the Middle Ages. Although the Medieval Church imposed on everyone, it was a necessity because it provided houses for the poor (creating charity), gave the lower class salvation and hope, and started colleges and schools.…
