American militia diplomats were fully aware that the French were more antagonists of the English than their (US’s) friend. Moreover, doughty Jay became alarmed by the proposal of Joseph Rayneval, Vergennes’ secretary, that US should be cooped itself up to east of the Appalachians for Spain’s interest. His suspicion arose when he came to know that Joseph Rayneval secretly left Paris for London. He became clear that France was about to sacrifice American interests to Britain so that a weak French-dependent US republic might born. Then he communicated with Franklin and promptly sent a special emissary to London to open a separate negotiation with the British ignoring the instructions of the Continental Congress. Though Jay’s attempt was non-ethical…
The police and FBI actually target these social dynamite groups. One example of this is about the woman who worked for , she talked about how she would get threatening phone calls from some type of government or legal group. The police and FBI can actually break these small groups up by putting one group member against the other, and many other ways. Another way the police target these groups is by using unnecessary restraints such as pepper spray, tear gas, clubs and rubber bullets like they did in Seattle, when people were demonstrating against the WTO.…
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.…
A soldier in the American revolution was called a militia. An American soldier of the American revolution were not living in good conditions. The American revolution was from 1775 to 1783. For the soldiers there was a lot of shortages in the people's necessities like money, weapons, food, clothing and shelter. The American soldiers lived and fought in a non-sanitary environment. Diseases were easy to catch and were easily spread. These strong American soldiers never gave up hope and never complained about the bad conditions they were in.…
In my personal opinion, I think that the Generals assemblage was a great success. Many websites and a book that I have looked at said that the statue gives off a humorous feel than serious. Most serious sculptures would only depict one rider on a steed, whereas the Generals has two men (one being our country's Founding Father and the other Simón Bolívar, the political and military leader of Venezuela). It is also to be noted that the way the horse is depicted in the statue--it is very comical. Marisol did not take the time to carefully craft out a noble steed, but rather created it out of a barrel. The barrel was then mounted on legs that used to belong to a once ordinary table with wheels.…
Today, especially after the Connecticut shooting, there is an argument over the right to bear arms. One portion of the argument focuses on whether or not people even have this right. As stated by Michael Sommers, the second amendment reads: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” (Sommers 42) When the second amendment was written and passed, there was no professional army, only a civilian…
Throughout history, there have been many rebellions that have led to permanent changes in a group or region. The American Revolution is one of the many that has changed the course of history. For decades, historians faced the question of how the colonies manage to beat Great Britain when they were much inferior in comparison. While in most cases, historians would emphasize military strength as being one of the main reasons, most have rejected this explanation as a reason of defeating Great Britain. Instead, they have suggested that the defeat was a result of “British mistakes.” However, I agree with John Shy’s argument that the colonial militia was critical to the American victory in the Revolutionary War, as he explained in “The American Revolution: The Military Conflict Considered as a Revolutionary War.”…

Civil rights and legal mobilization movements all start from a root. The root being a grievance in which a person’s fundamental rights are being compromised whether it be a right that is explicitly written in the constitution or an enumerated right. The Fundamental rights are rights that are recognized by the Supreme Court as being fair and legal. The fundamental rights are illustrated in the first amendment. As it reads “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”.…
Bobby and all other armed members at the protest were arrested, all got out after six months, and in that time, the movement grew to have different cells across the nation.…
Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate founded the National Rifle Association in 1871. The goal of the association would be to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis," according to a magazine editorial written by Church. The first NRA president would be General Ambrose Burnside from the civil war; he was also the former Rhode Island governor and a U.S. senator. The NRA’s first “home” would be in the state of New York where they built a firing range for annual competitions, but shortly thereafter, political opposition on the promotion of marksmanship in New York made the NRA’s matches move to New Jersey. The NRA has contributed to many arm bearing movements, for instance, in 1949, the NRA, in agreeance…
It will be told by the future Historian, that the Province of Upper Canada, without the assistance of men or arms, except for a handful of regular troops, repelled its invaders, slew or took them all prisoners, and captured from its enemies the greater part of the arms by which it was defended. ... And never, surely, was greater activity shewn in any country, than our militia here exhibited, never greater valour, cooler resolution, and more approved conduct; they have emulated the choicest veterans... – From a sermon delivered by Rev. John Strachan 22 Dec 1812. 1…
The modern militia movement took off in the mid-1990s, with the first large militias appearing in 1994 and growth continuing over the next several years. The movement reflected widespread anger over what was seen as the meddling of a relatively liberal administration in Washington—from gun control to environmental laws to a variety of other federal mandates. But what really ignited the movement was the bloodshed in Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and Waco, Texas. In 1992, during a standoff between white supremacist Randy Weaver's family in Idaho and federal agents—a confrontation that began with Weaver's sale of an illegal weapon—Weaver's son and wife were killed, along with a U.S. marshal. The following year, some 80 members of the gun-loving Branch Davidian…
