Beth Tissaoui Microsoft’s Strategic Initiative
Microsoft was cofounded on April 4, 1975, by childhood friends, Paul Allen and Bill Gates. Bill Gates served as the first CEO due to the 60/40 partnership he had with Paul Allen. The first Japanese office, ASCII Microsoft, opened in August 1977. Microsoft became incorporated in Washington thus becoming Microsoft Inc. in 1981. Microsoft’s many products include Microsoft’s Operating Systems, Microsoft Mouse, Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and the Xbox gaming system. In 1986, three years after the creation of Windows, Microsoft Inc. went public making both Paul Allen and Bill Gates instant billionaires due in large part to the success of their Windows program. (Bellis, n.d.) Microsoft 's immense growth and popularity were attributed to its strategic planning initiative, and how its strategic planning initiative affects its financial planning as well as its costs and revenues of the supply chain. Microsoft must also take into consideration its ethical concerns in regards to its initiative.
Strategic Planning Initiative A review of Microsoft’s 2014 Annual Report identifies several strategic planning initiatives for the organization. Cloud-based services are a major initiative that Microsoft has focused on when planning its initiatives. The Microsoft Corporation is a major "technology leader focused on being the productivity and platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first world". (Yahoo Finance, 2014) Microsoft’s ability to generate revenue by developing, licensing, and supporting software products is proof of their undying focus to bring top notch products to their clientele. (Yahoo Finance, 2014) The Microsoft Corporation has committed itself to providing cloud-based services to consumers and businesses. Cloud-based services include the designing,
