The Medium Is Message
The medium is the message.

McLuhan tells us that a "message" is, "the change of scale or pace or pattern" that a new invention or innovation "introduces into human affairs." He always encouraged other people to look behind the scene and understand it. Here we consider example of theatrical productions. In general the message from these productions is not their music and plays but the tourism which means people travel more and more to see such kind of shows. On the other hand if we talk about a theatrical production which is based on a specific topic then we can say that its message is for the altitude and action of audience which is quite different from the medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly the message from newscast is not the new stories but a change in the public attitude towards crime and climate of fear. McLuhan explained the quote “medium is the message as follows.
“This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium-that is, of any extension of us- result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by the any new technology.”
Different perspective of this statement:

He also emphasized that content does not affect the society but the medium itself and its characteristics. Just like a bulb which is a medium but it has no content but it affects the society by creating space in darkness. Newspaper and television message is not its programs but the point of view about certain things which it shows to audience who is watching these programs. He also said that media is the extension of ourselves. Just like the hammer or any other tool in our hands enhance the performance of our body. Media helps us in addressing millions of people at a time, giving new ideas and thinking. Language is also another medium which convey our thoughts to other people. The individual sensory produces thoughts and speech is the result of our sensory. The concept of HOT media and COOL

organize as a society and allows us to consider one’s self. Another reason that mediums or technology change our culture and world quicker than ever is that content is comparatively slow, ideas are slower, and technology faster in communicating. To explain, ideas and content are like erosion, they are powerful and unstoppable but slow. And mediums are earth quakes they are dramatic and reshape the land scape overnight. McLuhan points out, “it is only too typical that the “content” of any medium blinds us to the character of the medium” (p.9). In other terms, arguments about ides should ever be fully divorced from the mediums by which those ideas are delivered and the character of those mediums. Because it effects more than just the way that the medium is reshaped, our physical lives, culture, technologies, and society reshape the very nature of the content that is delivered. How we communicate with each other defines who we are and holds accountability to our culture. The message technologies create allow for a new stage of interaction and connection with other people though we do not realize the effects that it will have on culture. The effect of the medium becomes the blue print and builds integration to society. These effects are McLuhan’s message.…

Answer: McLuhan thought media was something which needed to be addressed. He felt media and technologies were becoming more apparent. McLuhan was intrigued in how media can influence change in culture and society however deep down he knew the negatives of media as well. For example he would tell his son to be cautious when his daughter watches TV “try not to have Emily exposed to hours and hours of TV It is a vile drug which permeates to the nervous system, especially in the young”…

The medium is very important in the modern technological world. What we mean under media? According to Marshall McLuhan, “the medium is the message” (1967) shape of the medium sometimes is more important than the message which is transported by the medium. However, governments and authority can use the medium as a source of surveillance. They can implement ideas in the people minds and settle fear in the society. The medium shouldn’t be used as a force to control the humanity, and government and authorities are obliged to provide the freedom of speech and action.…

These trends become global and then marketers use this information to sell the products of the companies that hire them. Another key term is that the world has become a global village and this is true because the geographical and physical distance is no longer relevant. “Ours is a brand-new world of allatonceness. “Time” has ceased, “space” has vanished. We now live in a global village…a simultaneous happening” (McLuhan 63). Allatononceness is a term which means that everything is available at once and this is the case because there is the content and there is the medium which is also the message. Also, the new technologies and new forms of media change the society in a way that is in favor of people who invent them. The message is less important than the medium and that is because of the fact that the medium changes perspective of people and shapes public opinion. Television makes it possible for the people to observe many events in real time which makes a shift on reality. The public always feels as if they were in the front rows and that is why pubic figures gain so much popularity. The message is related to the masses which is why the title of this book refers to messages as…

The impact of print media and television upon society has been debated for many years. When technological advancements such as the telegraph, the television and computers arrived, the print media industry as a whole was shaken up and the impact upon society was profound. In the 1960s, media theorist Marshall McLuhan came up with a few key theories which are still put in to use today. The main outline of his theory was that the medium is more important than the message. For example: a newspaper and the concept of newspaper report was more important than the actual story it was reporting.…

Marshall McLuhan claims that any change taking place around us is an extension of ourselves, or, in other words, any medium is an extension of a human body or mind or senses. For an instance, the hammer is an extension of a human’s arm, the wheel is an extension of a human’s leg, and the medium of a language helps us to put our thoughts and emotions into words. According to this, things around us would not be the medium unless it does its function. Like, an electric light itself is a medium without the message, pure information, unless we use it in a verbal ad, for example. Only then it affects us and changes our lives because since then we are surrounded by the medium. In other words, cultures are changed not only by the “content” of technology, but also by the technology itself.…

The medium is the message is a phrase that challenges the idea behind the artwork, which was coined by Marshall McLuhan. McLuhan warns us that we are often distracted by the content of a medium. The true value of a medium is how can it be used to enhance our collective experience and understanding within society. It can discuss the meaning that the form of a medium embeds itself in the message, creating a symbiotic relationship by which the medium influences how the message is perceived to the audience. This phrase can be communicated through Damien Hirst and Stelarc artwork.…
