The MBA Decision
NPV Options for Ben:
1. Keep Working
Salary = $60,000, tax rate = 26%, because of tax rate, c = $44,400 R (discount rate) = 6.5% G (growth rate) = 3% T (the number of period working) = 40 So :
Present Value (PV) of Growing Annuity.
PVW = C ((1 – ( (1+g)/(1+r))t)/ r – g )
PVW= $44 400 ((1 – ((1+3%)/(1+6.5%))40)/ 6.5% - 3%)
PVW = $44 400 ((1 – (1.03/1.065)40)/ 0.035)
PVW = $ 44 400 ((1 – 0.2627) / 0.035)
PVW = $44 400 (0.7373 / 0.035)
PVW = $44 400 (21.066)
PVW = $ 935,317.71

2. MBA 1 – Wilton Uni
Cash Outflow (Investment):
Cost = $65 000 + $3000 + $3000 + $2000 = $ 73,000
(Payable in each beginning of the year)
R (discount rate) = 6, 5%
T (the number of period studying) = 2
So :
Present Value (PVA) = PV0 (tuition etc paid now) + PV1 (tuition etc paid beginning next year)
PVA = $73,000 + $73,000/(1+6.5%)
PVA = $73,000 + $68,544.6
PVA = $ 141,544.6

Opportunity lost (intangible):
Salary = $60,000, tax rate = 26%, because of tax rate, c = $44,400
R (discount rate) = 6.5%
G (growth rate) = 3%
T (the number of period working) = 2
So :
Present Value (PV) of Growing Annuity.
PVOL = C ((1 – ( (1+g)/(1+r))t )/ r – g )
PVOL = $44 400 ((1 – ((1+3%)/(1+6.5%))2)/ 6.5% - 3%)
PVOL = $44 400 ((1 – (1.03/1.065)2)/ 0.035)
PVOL = $44 400 ((1 – 0.9353)/ 0.035)
PVOL = $44 400 (0.0647/0.035)
PVOL = $44 400 (1.8486)
PVOL = $82,076.51

Total CO: $ 141,544.6 + $82,076.51 = $ 223,621.11

Cash inflow:
Salary = $110,000, tax rate = 31%, so, C = $75,900
R (discount rate) = 6, 5%
G (growth rate) = 4%
T (the number of period working) = 38 (40 years – 2 years)
So :
Present Value (PV) of Growing Annuity at the year 2.
PVNJA = (C ((1 – ((1+g)/(1+r))t)/r – g) by end of year 2) then calculated 2 years to present
PVNJA = $75 900 ((1 – ( (1+4%)/(1+6.5%))38)/ 6.5% - 4%) /(1+6.5%)2
PVNJA = $75 900 ((1 – (1.04/1.065)38)/ 0.025) / 1.134225
PVNJA = $75 900 ((1 – (0.9765)38)/

    The definition of a leader can be expressed in many ways. In reference to the movie 12 Angry Men, I have come to agree with the quote of our sixth President John Quincy Adams which states “if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” (Smith, 14) In this movie the main character Davis played by Henry Fonda was able to influence 11 other jurors by introducing the concept of possibility. Davis exemplified leadership through his behavior, thinking, and communication skills in his efforts to persuade the other jurors.…

    The story of Chris Gardner, a man with vision, a role model to his son and a classical example of how a homeless man with a child can exert himself from being poor to become one of the most outstanding man who successes, and go above and beyond what people think of him. In describing Chris Gardner personality traits, I would say it consist of the fact that he very aggressive ambitious and loyal to his son. Referring to Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, his physiological thirst was become a stock broker to improve his living condition. In providing his child with a safety place to bathe, sleep and eat. Chris knows that he poor therefore, he accepted himself for whom he is. His self-actualization is that do better for himself and his son is drive to achieve the goal that he established for himself. From reviewing the interview and movie he seems to be a person that doesn’t give up. He works extremely hard to get to where he needs to be. An example being raped by other men or being abused by his step father doesn’t stop or causes him to give up. Chris Gardner is determined to succeed as he quoted “you can beat me down, but I could read and I’m going place”. With the responsibility of supporting himself and his son he made a pact to himself that he would not abandon his son like his father has done. Thru thick and thin, both will work together to get through the obstacle that arises.…

    While at work one day I was asked by my boss at the last minute to fill in for one of our financial analysts and attend a luncheon that was being given by a company that was soon going public. It is common practice for us to attend a luncheon given by an IPO name in hopes of establishing some sort of relationship with the company prior to the Initial Public Offering. In this case I sat in a room surrounded by MBA graduates handing out their business cards, while I handed out my boss's business card and listened to them discuss what they thought to be the economic prospects of the company. As I sat there I realized I was able to understand what they were saying because of my work experience but had no idea where there thoughts and concepts were coming from. As they continued rebutting their thoughts I said nothing and felt inferior, and in a sense, stupid. I started questioning what I could do in order for me to be handing out my own business card one day. When I went back to my office I began asking my co-workers If they had their MBA's and realized, if not all, most of them did. Another common thread was each of their responses were positive and they all agreed an MBA helped them to further their careers. It was at that moment that I decided to get my MBA. Now, the only question left to ask was how?…
