The Lucky One Character Analysis

The main character in The Lucky One is Logan Thibault. Logan is a complex character that develops and changes as the book continues. At the start of the book Logan is a soldier in the war. He has witnessed several of his fellow soldiers die, he soon finds a photo of a women while stationed at a camp. After finding the photo, he begins to experience a string of good luck. He survives several traumatic events when others did not. Logan describes the photo as “Finding something like that in a war is like finding an angel in hell so I kept it with me” (Sparks, 194). After leaving the war and returning home, Logan is lost. He is not sure how to adapt back to a normal life. As a reader I also get the sense that he feels he owes his life to the …show more content…
He is also suffering from the side effects of being in Afghanistan; he attacks his nephews when they surprised him while he was still in Colorado. Logan admits while on his journey that he is not sure what he will find or where he will end, he just knows that he needs to find the women in the photo. He later tries to explain the journey and the photo by saying “How can you explain something that you can’t even understand yourself” (Sparks, 205). After arriving in North Carolina Logan begins to form a relationship with Elizabeth, still not completely understanding or knowing where it will lead. Logan is very mistrustful of people at this stage in the book; he is mistrustful of Keith after he first meets him. As his relationship builds with Elizabeth Logan begins to transform, he is able to talk about his experiences in Afghanistan with Elizabeth after she tells him about her brother. At the end of the book he is able to put aside his differences with Keith to save Ben’s life. He even tries to help Keith in the end. This book like other Nicholas Sparks books is a romantic novel. I would recommend this book to a friend that truly enjoys a good love story. This book is filled with the idea of fate and destiny. Was Logan supposed to find the picture was it in his destiny to find the picture and then travel to find Elizabeth? Several references in the book relate to the idea of destiny and fate. For example this line from the book “In the blink of an eye, something happens by chance - when you least expect it - sets you on a course that you never planned, into a future you never imagined.” (Sparks, 114). We do not truly know, however the journey of the two lovers made a good book that I would
