Should the cultivation, distribution, and sell of marijuana be legalized in the economically struggling desert town, Desert Hot Springs? The legalization of marijuana is an argument that has plagued the nation for decades. A fast-growing, easy cultivating plant that has been around since 500 BC, marijuana has been used as an herbal remedy, food, and to make rope, clothing, paper, etc. Medical marijuana became popular in the 19th century, when an Irish doctor discovered that cannabis extracts could help people with stomach pains and cholera. After he discovered that, cannabis extracts were sold in pharmacies and doctors offices throughout Europe in the United States to reduce stomach problems and other illnesses.
