2 I was not aware that I was employed by a learning organization until I took this course. A learning organization is one that encourages and promotes learning at all levels to empower employees and for the overall betterment and success of said organization. A learning organization is also one “where people continually expand their capacity to create the results they truly desire, where new and expansive patterns of thinking are nurtured, where collective aspiration is set free, and where people are continually learning how to learn together.” (Senge, 4) The learning organization I am employed by is a non-profit agency that provides care, in a residential facility, to mentally challenged adults who are referred to as Individuals. The staff at a residential facility comprises of the Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, Direct Care Counselors (DCC), Cook and Maintenance. All Supervisors and DCCs are required to attend mandatory trainings such as CPR, First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Approved Medication Administration Personnel (AMAP), Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP), van safety and defensive driving. The Supervisors and DCCs are required to attend these mandatory trainings since they are the staff working closely with the Individuals. The Cooks are required to attend the same trainings except for AMAP, van safety and defensive driving. The cooks are also trained by the nutritionist about the Individuals ' diets. Just like the Cooks, the Maintenance staff are exempt from attending AMAP training since their job requirements do not require them to administer medication to the Individuals. The Maintenance staff do not receive additional training for their job duties; not even
