The Last Stand of Fox Company: True Story of U.S. Marines in Combat Marines in combat is like no other fighting force in the world. Marines were given the name first to fight because they are some of the bravest and best trained to take the first waves of attack. The story of the last stand of Fox company in the cold hills of North Korea has added to the platform today of how Marines are trained and respected the Corps is. Battle of Belleau Wood and Iwo Jima are other wars who stand equal to what Marines have become. These battles show Marines how Marines are supposed to stand up in a fight and never back down or surrender. The determination and devotion of every Marine on that hill in the trenches including Private Hector Cafferata are proof that Marines are Americas top fighting force. In this type of warfare there could possibly be many and many of heroes that go unsung but on stood out and was recognized for his valor and that was Private Hector Cafferata. During the very first night of fighting Cafferata found his fox hole was surrrounded by the Chinese who had got through a gap of the Americans somehow. Its was said that when the Chinese got right by there hole Cafferata clubs the men and took the machine gun and used it against them. Afterward they had to retreat back because the enemy knew there exact location and could have tossed a grenade or something so they retreated back to a trench where the other Marines were at. Few of the other Marines were still dazed from a few grenade blasts previously. Few of the Marines even took to hand-to-hand combat with bayonets where few of the Marines were killed. Cafferata and the Marines in the trench were all alone taking wave after wave of Chinese forces. Chinese didn't realize that would be approaching a very ready and viscous group of Marines ready to do anything to win this fight. Even though the Marines were running low on ammo they stayed relentless. Few times the Chinese tried throwing grenades but
