The Last Rung On The Ladder Analysis
In “ The Last Rung on the Ladder ,” by Stephen King , Two siblings , Kitty and her brother Larry have an adventurous day in there own backyard. Their parents are out and about and they are free to do whatever they want for the moment. Larry is given the responsibility to be a leader and a good big brother but instead squanders the responsibility and dares his little sister up the rickety ladder in the barn that they were forbidden from climbing. Larry was a bad mentor , he put Kitty’s life in danger as well as his own.

Even though Larry did save Kitty’s life he is a bad mentor based off the simple fact that he endangered her to begin with and if he had not done that the whole situation would have been avoided. Larry Said “ The ladder was swaying back and forth. It seemed like it had never been so loosey-goosey.” Larry was obviously aware that the ladder was shaky and unstable.

He dared Kitty up the ladder “ Dare You” Kitty replied “ Dares go first” Larry Replied “ Girls go before boys” & Kitty Said “ Not if it’s dangerous” and when she said she would not go up unless he went up first , up he went. With these actions here Larry would not qualify as a good leader.
This recklessness got Larry a spanking and Kitty a broken ankle “ Every time I whack you , Larry , I want you to thank God your sister is still alive” Larry’s Dad said. “He whacked me plenty times , so many times i ate standing up for a week.” But Larry already knew the consequences of his actions before he completed them. He knew himself or kitty could get hurt but yet nothing stopped

In this short story we meet Sister and four members of her family. The Protaganist of the story ia Sister , the oldest child of two girls, and her younger sister Stella-Rondo is the family favorite. It seems everything Sister wants, Stella-Rondo gets. Sister says that Stella-Rondo stole her boyfriend for it was Sister who had been dating Mr. Whitaker first until Stella- Rondo, being the jealous person she was told him that Sister was "one-sided," unequal on both sides. And that in-turn ended the relationship.Sisters real problem is that she is extreamly jelous of Stella-rondo. And she, Sister, at times can be a little selfish. For instance at the end Sister says to herself, "And if Stella-Rondo should come to me this minute, on bended knee, and attempt to explain the incidents of her life with Mr. Whitaker, I'd simply put my fingers in both my ears and refuse to listen" (153). That statement alone defines her jealously and selfishness towards her sister, because it seems Mr. Whitaker is the only thing she is really upset about for she makes no mention about any of the other family members,…

Mel Lazarus, writer of Angry Fathers, showed by describing his relationship between him and his father, as he recalled an incident that happened when he was 9 years old, back in 1938, when corporal punishment was most used to correct bad behavior, “They’ll live, don’t worry “, was the common idea, that event marked his relationship and trust with his father for life. Lazarus’ family stayed at a boarding house in Catskills for the summer during school vacations, and he and two buddies were hanging out one August afternoon, bored. So what they decided to do was engage in a little remodeling, as the owner of the place was furious, the three mothers basically decided to let their husbands discipline the boys. The bingo players felt a strong lust for vengeance; they wanted to see some beatings. As Lazarus tells it, his friends' fathers came home first, one at a time. The first dad, took off his belt and began whipping his son, the second father came home and when he learned what happened, began thrashing his boy, slamming him to the ground and kicking him. Lazarus was now terrified; his father had never raised his hand in violence, but after seeing this, the young boy was truly afraid that he'd crossed the line. His father came home; the owner explained what had happened. Lazarus's dad stared at his son for a moment. Then he suddenly left. He got back into his car and drove off. He returned an hour later with a stack of Sheetrock boards tied to the top of his car. He took the sheetrock into the remains of the casino, and then took a hammer he'd bought at the hardware store out of the front seat, and went to work. He said not a word to anyone; he just rebuilt the casino, taking most of the night to do it. Lazarus was still worried about retribution in the morning, but none came. The father never mentioned the incident and the weekend went perfectly fine. Lazarus says that, while he knew his father was angry, the father also believed that…

During my dissertation fieldwork, staying in two villages of different ranks broadened my experience with hierarchy and knowledge. As Traube (1989) argued, the form of cosmogonic knowledge is encompassing, rooted, comprehensive at the “trunk,” or the source of hierarchy, but remains fragmented, partial and shallow at the tips. In Yap, the sociology of knowledge takes a slightly different form. Indeed, those who grew up in higher-ranking tabinaw are savvier with the political and marriage alliances among the high tabinaw, while those who are from the low-ranking tabinaw are dependent on the commands or information issuing from their patrons. They rarely possess the full picture of upper-level political associations.…
