Character Profile Report I read an amazing book called The Last Apprentice: Curse of the Bane. This is the second book in the series. It is about a 12-year old kid, named Tom, becoming an apprentice for the county spook. The spook’s job is to help the people in the county get rid of ghosts, ghasts, boggarts, and other creatures from the dark. Tom is special because he is the seventh son of a seventh son. Usually, the oldest son gets the most important jobs, and in the end, inherits the farm. Tom’s dad did not inherit anything. He was a sailor. One day, he found a lovely woman pinned to a rock. He was to be the Spook’s apprentice. In his first few months, he rid the county of a dreaded ghost, Mother Malkin, whom he accidentally set free. Now he faced an even tougher task, to rid the county of a beast named, the Bane. The Bane almost killed his master two years ago. Now the Bane needs to be killed. Tom successfully kills the Bane. Tom’s two most paramount character qualities are scared and curious. Tom Ward is scared at many times in the story. In chapter three, on page sixty-seven, while Tom and the Spook were setting off to deal with the Bane, Tom said, “I had a bad feeling of what lay ahead, a strong sense of danger.” This proves that Tom was scared because it shows his fear of facing the Bane. He is an amazing decision maker. He made the right decision to go talk to Father Carnis about the Spook’s danger. Although it did not turn out perfectly, Brother Peter let him go, and he escaped unharmed. He is also very stealthy. He moves swiftly, and sneakily, which is why he is awesome at escaping tough situations. He escaped the Quisitor’s army when they were about to capture him, as he was jail breaking the prisoners. He loves his family very much. Love is the strongest feeling of all. Thinking about his family keeps the Bane out of his mind because the Bane can’t break through love. Which is just like in the real life when love keeps the dark thoughts away. When you are thinking or are with, someone whom you love very dearly, you feel a strong sense of protection, and safety. When Tom was in the catacombs, the only thing that prevented the bane from killing him was love. Tom thought about his family, and Alice, a witch who Tom loves, which kept him safe from the Bane, and in turn, killed the Bane. Love is
