INTRODUCTION

I. Background: Nowadays, many newspapers and mass media usually mention about teenager’s awareness of sexual behavior. However, the lack of the knowledge about the true sexual behavior still exists. And this aspect is one of the most serious problems not only in teenager but also in adult of our society. So we decide to do this project to research more information about this problem. There is nothing new about teenage sex. In the past, however, it was largely confined to married teenagers and thus was not considered a problem. But today, teenagers are much likely than in the past to get married. At least until the last few years, the proportion of teenagers who have sex rose steadily, and they are more likely to use contraceptives than their earlier counterparts. Condoms use has risen also, probably because of the fear of AIDS and the increasing sexual activity. Sex is natural for most teens to become aware of as they move through the various stages of adolescence but it’s often something that can be of great concern to parents who

One of the world's biggest problems in today's society is teenage sex. United States has the highest pregnancy, abortion and child birth among teenagers. The biggest reason for this is because children grow up with the media promoting sex. Movies, music and magazines send the message that sex is okay and often expected. Teenagers don't fully understand the consequences that can arise from there decisions. The national campaign to prevent teen pregnancy has done a lot of studies and found about twenty percent of adolescents will have sexual intercourse before there fifteenth birthday and one in seven sexually active fourteen year olds will become pregnant. It has also been a concern that sexually active teenagers are far more likely to engage in other risky behaviors. Eighteen percent of sexually active young people reported that they drink regularly compared to three percent virgins. Similarly 29 percent of the sexually experienced adolescents said they had smoked regularly, and 43 percent had used marijuana, compared with 8 percent and 10 percent of the virgins. This report also found that teenagers have ample opportunities to engage in sexual activities. More than half of the fourteen year olds that were questioned have attended a party with no adult supervision, and about a third said that within the last three months, they had lain on a bed or couch alone with someone they liked. From half to three-quarters of the experienced 12- to 14-year-olds said they had used contraception the first time they had sex. About a quarter of the 12- to 14-years-olds had dated or had a romantic relationship with someone at least two years older -- and the greater the age difference, the more likely the relationship was to have included sexual intercourse, the study found. The data in the report comes from three federally financed surveys of young people -- the National Survey of Family Growth, the National Longitudinal Survey of Adolescent Health and the National Longitudinal…

When I was around the age to start talking about sexual activities, it was a funny and weird subject to speak on. In reality, it is a touchy topic to talk about with teens. You feel that you already know or you don’t need to know because you are not having sex. Oh! How we were wrong. My mom told me about birth control, condoms, and abstinence. At first I didn’t know exactly what abstinence was but I figured out that it meant wait to have sex when you’re ready. My mom told me to wait until I get married, never get pressured to do anything. I never learned a lot of facts at school because we didn’t have sex education. Sex education should be in all middle and high schools. So many kids like I did didn’t know about safe sex and the cause and effects on what will happen. Not only females but more males have no idea on what to expect as well. Recent discussions has showed that if you tell kids to stay abstinent not only will they go out and have sex anyway but cause a lot of problems such as, teen pregnancy, more infections spreading, and emotional distress.…

Teens did not know their own bodies. There were little factual resources that teenagers can depend. Few choices left for them, teenagers were guided along high risk actions. Abstinence was the approved option by parents, as it teaches teens to not be sexually active but not on protection or STDS. Another path is exploration on their own means. Exploration was dangerous, because teenagers were unaware of the consequences. Both options plunged teens’ health into a abyss. Then around 1980s, media started to reach towards the topic of sexual activity in teenagers. Many teen movies brushed against the topic about sexual activity and gave more positive responses than usual. Now, there is a rapid increase in sexual activity amongst teens. Due to this rise of sexually active teens, sexual health programs in high schools need to be updated to accommodate this change. High schools need to avoid only abstinence learning and implemented new programs for…

Sexual thoughts pop in and out of most people’s mind, but especially teenagers, and there’s nothing they can do about it. It is normal for teenage boys and girls to experience this, more than ever when they are hitting puberty. The hormones in the body begin to act up and teenagers want to experience other things on their own. Males begin to grow pubic and facial hairs, and their voice starts to deepen, while girls’ breasts begin to develop and their body begins to take shape. After hitting puberty, teenagers are now at the point where they want to experience things. ‚Don’t go out there and get pregnant‛ a mother explains, ‚you’re too young and I don’t think you’re ready to be a mother.‛ Likewise for a father, ‚Don’t get no girl pregnant and have a child you can’t even take care of.‛ However, that’s the only serious conversation parents ever have with their children about serious matters such as adolescence. They do not speak about the deeper things that teenagers need to be informed about and as a result teenagers will have to find out on their own. They will dwell on the things they have learnt, some even begin to have perverted thoughts and most teenagers want to experiment and put them into practice later on in life -- but where are the parents, where are the pastors, the counselors, all the essential people when it comes to issues such as these? Adults want to tell the younger children that sex is wrong at a young age, but don’t go into the deeper things such as masturbation or even internet pornography. The older folks want to say that the younger generation is corrupted, but never have they really sat down with a young man and mention things such as lust of the mind, and the same for girls. Adults are the cause of the perversion in the minds of their own children. Teenagers and even the younger children hear about pornography from their…

Sex is a common venture for everyone to experience at some point in their lives, and it comes to no surprise that teenagers are the first ones to engage in it. Sex is not a bad thing and teenagers should not be punished for it, but unfortunately most parents do not know how react when their teens come to them with sexual questions. Since teens do not talk to their parents beforehand, and vice versa, they usually decide to have sex blindly. Subsequently teenagers have neither prior experience nor knowledge about sex and…

Studies show that the national average for an adolescent’s first sexual intercourse encounter is seventeen years old. Despite this number being very close to the average age in other industrialized countries, the United States holds a higher percentage of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease (STD) contraction than those countries (Harper et al, 2010, p. 125). It’s becoming evident that while a majority of the nation’s youth is sexually active, they are not doing so with the appropriate knowledge to keep themselves and others healthy.…

In a culture that supports the right of free choice, groups such as the Religious Alliance Against Pornography (RAAP) will have a very difficult time spreading their message and achieving their cause. RAAP is a group trying to mobilize a sexually driven culture against porn; this is an almost unobtainable task. They might have certain luck in a few individuals but ultimately they will never be able to make pornography go away. Pornography is defined by Ros Coward as acts that are sexual and is about sexual difference according to a society’s interpretations of the pornographic (Kaite, 1995). The definition of pornography given in our text states it as any written, visual, or spoken material depicting sexual activity or genital exposure that is intended to arouse the viewer (Crooks & Baur, 2005). These are textbook definitions, but adolescents of today have completely different views, most of them finding pornography an amusing subject. A definition taken from Urban Dictionary (1999-2007) says porn is “a great American pastime. Baseball lost its title when the Internet was invented.” The term “pornography” as said by Thornburgh and Lin (2002), has no well-defined meaning. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart observed, “I can’t define it [obscenity], but I know it when I see it” (Thornburgh & Lin, 2002). Clearly, not only would this group have to work against film industries and magazine empires, but there is also the boundless amount of sexually based material on the Internet. There is also the matter of the quickly aroused male. Being a girl, I cannot confirm or deny this, but from observation men can take anything they find sexually pleasing and turn it into porn. Whether from scenes in a movie, to an advertisement billboard with a half naked woman on it, anything can be taking and made into porn, it is a matter of the person not the material. In the end I do not think that the RAAP or any group like it will ever be able to stop the flood of pornography.…
