The Knower's Perspective Is Essential In The Pursuit Of Knowledge
Nowadays, civilisations strive to obtain knowledge in many ways. They do this to uncover an essential ideal or model which confirms and validates their perception of experiences in everyday life. This pursuit of knowledge is essentially a search for truth. Because a person (‘the knower’) always begins their search for knowledge from their personal experience, the conclusions they reach will inevitably contain an element of subjectivity. After all, the knower is born into a family or community that will have its own ideas. Yet this community will also be highly influenced by the time and space in which they exist. Whether it be politics, history or science, every person possesses a complex set of values, beliefs and teachings that are both passed …show more content…
Through religious knowledge systems (religion), the knower is quickly confronted with a way of knowing founded on a network of beliefs and organised practices which consciously aim to affect the ways people behave in society. Religion is not just about ‘faith,’ (the trust one has in religious doctrine), but in education, social interactions, and understandings of the external world: since its birth religion has created rules on diet, relationships, and schooling, as well as punishments if such rules are broken. This is because religion is a bond between people and a higher power or god. Four of the largest religions in the world (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism) all follow this key principle. For instance, reason, including logical methods of deduction and debate, is a way of people overcoming the biases they naturally have due to their individual contexts. Reason can help one try to acquire a balanced view of a situation.
