Essay of The Kite Runner It is never too late to redeem your prior mistakes. Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner, he writes about an afghan boy who grows up with fear of standing up for himself. He later finds out in life that he is more like his father than he throught. Throughout the novel, the author shows that its never too late to redeem your prior mistakes which is shown through Hassan’s rape, Hassan;s mother leaving him, and Soraya talking to Amir about her life when she was sixteen. Throughout the novel, the author explains that it is never too redeem your prior mistakes which is shown through Hassan’s rape. One example is when Amir watches Hassan getting raped and does nothing to stop it. “A boy won’t stand up for himself becomes a man who can’t stand up for anything” (22). This explains that Amir would rather watch Hassan get rapped than stick up for Hassan and have something bad happen to him because Amir is the boy who can’t stand up for himself. Later in life, when Amir is all grown up, he received a letter from a close friend in Afghanistan telling him that he needs to come back to Afghanistan to make up his prior sins. That friend explains to Amir that Hassan is now dead and he had a son who is still alive, but he is with a terrorist organisation and he needs to be rescued. Amir finally makes up his mind and goes and tries to rescue Hassan’s child. Throughout the novel the author identifies that it is never too late to redeem your prior mistakes which is shown through Hassan’s mother coming back from being the mother she never was. “Time can be a greedy thing sometimes it steals details for itself” (226). Here the reader can see that Hassan’s mother went through the hard part of life to find her son Hassan and her grandson Soharb to be the mother she never was to Hassan. She was half dead when she showed up on Hassan’s doorstep. Sanaubar (Hassan’s Mother) help out there family until she had past away when Soharb was only four. Throughout the novel, the author identifies that it is never too late to redeem your prior mistakes which is shown through Amir’s wife (Soraya) explaining to Amir what she had done when she was only sixteen years old. This is shown when Soraya was only sixteen and she had run of with a man and shamed her own family. “He told him that he had two bullets in the chamber, one for him and one for himself if I didn’t come home” (107). This shows that her dad was so ashamed of her daughters choices that he would rather kill himself and her daughters boyfriend than have it happen in his presents. Soraya redeems herself by helping Amir raise Soharb and raises him like he was her own. Throughout the novel, the author shows that its never too late to redeem your prior mistakes. This is shown through Hassan’s rape, because of Hassan’s mother leaving him at a young age and coming back to be the mother she never was, and Soraya talking to Amir about her sins when she was sixteen. Another example of redemption is during the time when Amir watched and was silenced from Hassan’s rape and made up for it by rescuing Hassan’s son. Sanaubar redeems herself because she comes back into Hassan’s life and tries to make a difference. Soraya redeems herself when she realizes her actions were wrong at sixteen years of age. She made up for it by telling Amir how she is searching for redemption. It is never too late to redeem your mistakes in your life!
