The Joys of Planning a Wedding...
The Joys of Planning a Wedding

The verdict is in - I will only get married once. I've always felt that in my heart, but the experience of planning my wedding removed any doubts that I may have had. The process of planning a wedding is so extensive and involved that once the process has started, there is no turning back. You will be completely absorbed in the ins and outs of the entire day from that point forward. While the main focal point should be the actual ceremony uniting the man and woman, that is rarely the case. There are so many details to work out from the color scheme to the reception menu that you have no option but to stay completely focused. Anyone that has been involved in planning a wedding before will tell you that once you get the "big four" out of the way you're almost home free. The "big four" in the wedding planning world are: deciding where the ceremony will be held, choosing a reception venue, deciding which dresses will be worn, and planning the honeymoon. Deciding where the ceremony will be held is one of the first things you need to do when planning a wedding. You need to decide first and foremost whether or not you want a church wedding. If you are a member of a particular church, your first instinct will be to hold the wedding at your church. You have to be certain that the church will be able to accommodate the number of guests you'll be inviting to attend. Does the church have any specific rules against music or decorations? You don't want to step on anyone's toes on one of the most memorable days of your life. My fiancé and I chose to have the wedding at our church with our pastor, Reverend Johnson, officiating. There haven't been any problems as of yet as far as song choice or decorations. I went the safe route on my musical selections to be played during the ceremony, and my mother, sisters and I will be decorating the church the Thursday before the actual ceremony. Once you've decided where the ceremony will be held, your

My ancestors came in my country of America in chains. Take a look at me now. One more look. Once again perhaps. I see Barack almost everyday, praying as a Muslim in the Oval Office and around the Beautiful House. Also, all the years we have knowing each other, he has been praying as a Christian as I am. I could not be more proud to say, if any Muslim or Christian leader in our wonderful nation, the United States of America, or around the world can run his or her country like he has been running for almost a decade, we will all be living with the Angels in heaven on Earth. But it wasn't easy, look at his gray hair. What we inherited first day we walked in until tonight, it sure wasn't easy. Forget about the odds that were against us, excluding for Oprah. Godly souls always have been showing themselves among their own kind in a gathering dropping…

When I first began oral communications, the speech I was most excited to give was the interview speech. This is because I knew exactly who I wanted to do and that it would be interesting to get to ask him about his life. In my last speech, I had some struggles and didn’t perform in a way that I strive for. This motivated me to practice my skills more and get better. Just this past week I decided I would give the sport of wrestling a shot. In the past, I have participated in basketball. Since I’m one of the shorter kids in my class I thought I should give up this sport and try something new. Into my first week of wrestling I picked up a quote that’s left a deep affect on me. Coach Allen told us a quote by Winston Churchill that says, “Failure isn’t fatal, and success isn’t final.” This quote says a lot about my personal experience and interview…

Tomorrow I get married. You looked at yourself in the mirror, wearing your veil and holding your bouquet. You were still wearing your clothes from earlier that day which made for a strange combination with the fine lace draped on your hair and the calla lilies in your hands. It was a sight to take in and, somehow, made it seem very real and frightening.…

It is difficult to hold on to traditions over time. Change in cultural traditions is inevitable. However, because traditions define a people at a given time and place, learning about them is both interesting and necessary. Since many Palestinian traditions may not be practiced anymore, it is important to remember them and record them for posterity. I have always been interested in the traditions that are no longer practiced. For that reason, and because it is rather different than those of today, I am choosing to describe a Palestinian wedding from the 1940's. A wedding was a grand affair which was celebrated by the entire village. Even travelers and people from nearby villages were welcomed to the weddings. Everyone in the village knew that a wedding was coming. The family of the groom would go from house to house to personally invite guests with an offering of "makhloota", a mixture of nuts and seeds. In traditional Palestinian weddings, it is the groom's family who pays for and arranges the entire ceremony.…
