The Spanish American War is simply an abomination of American morals and ideals. Spain and the United States are currently in conflict, as a result of American intervention in Cuba. America has yet again impressed its indomitable will upon fledgling nations, and in this case, one that did not even need “help” especially since it was already under Spanish control, regardless of how relaxed or ineffective that role may have been.…

Keene, J., Fighting for Franco: International Volunteers in Nationalist Spain During the Spanish Civil War (London: Hambledon Continuum, 2001)…
Like other civil wars, the Spanish Civil War often pitted family members and trusted neighbours and friends against each other. Apart from the soldiers, many civilians were killed for their political or religious views by both sides, and after the war ended in 1939, Republicans were at times persecuted by the victorious Nationalists. Since Spanish government was in disarray during its civil war so Hitler and Mussolini saw this as an opportunity to help and get the Fascist and Nazi ideals into the Spanish government. However, Franco himself was not a Fascist he was just accepting the help him and his government required. This resulted in strengthening the war because Hitler's move into Spain revealed rebel forces trying to remove the Spanish officials, such as the King and his government officials but the rebel movement never gained enough popularity at the time. In 1936 the military hoped to capture Spain quickly but they failed, and nearly half of the army remained loyal to the government and the rebellion failed in Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and the Basque country which resulted in workers and peasant soldiers were formed to defend the government. Nevertheless, in the beginning of 1939 the Republic collapsed and the Nationalists occupied Barcelona and in a few months…
Moving on, in 1898, the Spanish American War came into existence under the leadership of President William McKinley. A few years before McKinley came into office, Cuba attempted to overthrow Spanish colonial rule, and in return, the Spanish rulers started using harsh policies that included concentration camps. The rebels received financial assistance from private U.S. interests and used America as a base of operations from which to attack. McKinley originally tried to avoid an armed conflict with Spain, but the American media, lambasted McKinley as weak and ignited an intense reaction to what was taking place in Cuba. The convergence of anti-Spanish public opinion and the government's desire to protect American economic interests in Cuba prompted…
In order for America to force the Spanish out, a military invasion on Cuba would have to take place. More than 250,000 soldiers rushed to volunteer for service. Teddy Roosevelt was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy at the time, he resigned his post and formed a voluntary cavalry.…
It can be argued that the nationalist were stronger than that of the republicans during the outset of civil war, the first reason is due to the nationalist being sympathize and supported by Portuguese dictator Antonio de Olivier a Salazar. This played a great role as Spain is bordered to Portugal and by having its leader to side with the nationalist acts as great assets in winning the civil war. The nationalist was also supported by Europe’s growing fascist powers, Hitler’s and Mussolini, both sees benefits of assisting the nationalist in the Spanish civil war. This means that the nationalist was supplied with weaponry and ammunitions; they also received aid and assistance such as airlift and other services by both militaries.…
“And shall our country let it pass, this deed of foul intent? And shall our country dare believe it was an accident?... Come arm, we all, and let us teach a lesson to bold Spain. We will avenge, by more than speech the destruction of the Maine!” These words were spoken by H. W. Petrie (1898) (p. 592). These words were spoken about the Spanish-American War. Mr. Petrie spoke these words after the destruction of the Maine, which is thought to be a key affect of the Spanish-American War. The war was based on the U.S. going to war with Spain to help Cuba fight for their independence from Spain. This war only lasted a few months, and there were not many deaths caused by battle. This war helped Cuba to win independence, and changed our role in foreign policy, made the “U.S. the dominant power in the Western Hemisphere” (Jack Beaudoin) (1999) (p. 26), and created the U.S. a “new stature in world affairs.” (Prentice Hall United States History) (2012) (p. 598)…

The Spanish-American War was a four-month conflict between Spain and the United States, provoked by word of Spanish colonial brutality in Cuba. Although the war was largely brought about by the efforts of U.S. expansionists, many Americans supported the idea of freeing an oppressed people controlled by the Spanish. At war's end, America emerged victorious with newly acknowledged respect as a world power.…
